Meghan Black Cook, 33, of 4138 H E Propst Road in Maiden, was charged on Monday with one count of felony embezzlement after Deputy K. Davis of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Wal-Mart on Highway 73 in Denver to investigate allegations of larceny by an employee.
Wal-Mart Loss Prevention notified the officer of 51 cash refund receipts for medication in Cook’s possession, dating from April 2 to July 24. The total value of the cash refunds was $4,035, according to a press release.
Cook confessed to the theft, deputies said, and was taken into custody and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
