William L. ‘Bill’ Goins
Cherryville – Mr. William L. “Bill” Goins, 80, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
Bill was born in Cleveland County on May 3, 1934 a son of the late Clarence Goins and Barbara Moss Goins. He was retired as a long line driver with Cargo Transport. As a child Bill grew up in Cleveland County and attended Buffalo Baptist Church in Shelby, he later moved his membership to Gospel Way Baptist Church in Cherryville where he served as a former Trustee. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Harris Goins; second wife, Bessie Hamrick Goins; and a brother, Carroll Goins.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Goins and wife Wanda and Jarrod Goins; three daughters, Cheryl Underdown, Pam Goins, Tracy Crawley and husband Tony all of Lincolnton; a sister, Irene Grigg of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church in Shelby. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Freddie Grigg officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard.

Kenneth Steve Helms

Kenneth Steve Helms, age 63 of Lincolnton, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his residence. He was born June 4, 1951 in Lincoln County to the late Cletus Helms and Mary Bivens Helms.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Helms of the home; three sons, Kyle Blanton of Lincolnton, Ronnie Helms of Lincolnton, John Helms and his wife Ericka of Connelly Springs; three daughters, Katie Helms, Tina Helms and Allen Haithcox, and Amy Helms and her fiancée Bradley Houser, all of Lincolnton; one brother, Bill Helms and his wife Margie of Lincolnton; three sisters, Carolyn Hedgpeth, Ann Davis, and Mildred Tallent and her husband Rick, all of Vale, and three grandchildren, Cameron Allen, Colton Helms, and Sierra Hendricks.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Westside House of Prayer in Vale. Rev. Todd Auton will officiate.

Marshall Levoid Withers
Denver- Marshall Levoid Withers, age 81 of Denver, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at CMC-Main following an accident. He was born January 15, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Garvin Withers and Mary Reinhardt Withers. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark Withers. He was retired from Grinnell Fire Protection and was current owner of Withers Realty.
He is survived by his fiancée, Joyce Nail of Hickory; a son, Gary Withers and his wife Lyndon of Hickory; a daughter, Gail Withers-Robinson and her husband Patrick of Southport; one grandson, David Withers and his wife Xylvia of Lincolnton; one great grandson, Noah Withers of Lincolnton; one sister, Ruby Withers Caudle and her husband “Chuck” Ray Caudle of Lincolnton, and family member, Rev. Butch Boyd of Lincolnton.
Services will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 at 3 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home Chapel, Lincolnton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Butch Boyd will be officiating.

Catherine Long Harris Moore, 102, of Newton died July 20, 2014.
The funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Newton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Martha Etta Carroll Allen McCarter, 80 died July 21, 2014.

Angeline Thornhill Widener, 82, of Lincolnton died July 19, 2014.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be at Spirit of Life Church of God.

Donna Jean Clark Talbert, 42, of Newton died July 19, 2014.

Daniel “Danny” Burris Patterson, 60, of Conover died July 22, 2014.
A service of remembrance will be held July 24, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Oxford Baptist Church, Conover. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends July 24, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at Oxford Baptist Church.
