Probation officers charge woman with felony for pills

Staff Writer

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sabrina Darlene Whitworth, 32, of 2589 Woodland Hills Trail, Trailer #37 in Lincolnton and charged her with trafficking prescription pills after a warrantless probation search was carried out on Friday.
Narcotics investigators and probation officers searched the home as a condition of probation Whitworth received for previous charges.
Following the search, officers seized 11 grams of hydrocodone and Opana, both opiate-based painkillers. In addition to the prescription medications, officers confiscated drug paraphernalia including syringes, spoons and a straw containing drug residue.
Whitworth was taken into custody and charged with one felony count each of trafficking in opium or heroin and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance in addition to one misdemeanor count of probation violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
If convicted, Whitworth would face a mandatory prison sentence. Her probation stems from a 2012 conviction of one felony count each of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a schedule III controlled substance and delivery or sale of a schedule IV controlled substance. Whitworth is currently being held at the Harven A. Crouse detention center on a $55,000 bond.
Offenders on probation or parole are subject to warrantless searches as a condition of their suspended sentences. These searches may be carried out by probation officers, law enforcement or both.
