A Catawba County man is being held at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center on a $125,000 bond, accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Darrick Wayne Fowler, 24, of 1719 Duke Street in Newton, was arrested on Saturday after deputies responded to a report of a suspicious car behind CVS Pharmacy on Webb’s Road in Denver. Officers approached the vehicle and found Fowler and an unidentified female partially clothed.
Upon questioning, the female initially said she was 19 years old, but later confessed that she was 14. Both individuals admitted to engaging in sexual acts, a press release said. Fowler was taken into custody and the juvenile was released into her mother’s custody.
Fowler was charged with one felony count each of statutory rape/sex offense of a 13, 14, or 15 year old by a defendant six years older and crime against nature.
