Charlcie C. Mace
MAIDEN — Charlcie Ann Costner Mace, age 95, of Maiden passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 at CMC- Lincoln. Born August 1, 1918 in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Marcus Costner and the late Emma Hudson Costner. She was a member of Maiden Wesleyan Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Willard Mace; and a son, Dean Mace.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda M. Beal of Lincolnton, Jane M. Schronce and husband David of Maiden, Janice M. Helms and husband Ronnie of Taylorsville; two sons, Billy G. Mace of Maiden, Jimmy D. Mace of Maiden; daughter-in-law, Frankie A. Mace of Maiden; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Maiden Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bob Scott officiating. Burial followed in Maiden City Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Barbara Jean Graham Nixon
DENVER — Barbara Jean Graham Nixon, age 73, of Denver passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at CMC-Lincoln. She was born in Lincoln County to the late Cash Graham and Mary Hunter Graham.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Graham and Alfonzo Nixon, both of Denver; one daughter, Laura Nixon of Denver; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Rock Hill United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be at Rock Hill/Gold Hill Cemetery. Rev. Shirley Canty, Apostle Samuel Ervin and Apostle Pecolia Ervin will officiate.

Edith Ray Smith, 85, of Lincolnton died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at CMC Lincolnton. Born June 2, 1929 she was the daughter of the late of Benjamin Waters and Daisy Brackett Waters. She was a homemaker and a music lover.
A son, Bobby R. Smith and wife Kay of Vale; three daughters, Geneva S. Moore and husband Thomas of Newton, Linda Smith of Vale, Nancy Smith of Vale; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren survive her.
Her husband of 52 years, Charlie Madison Smith; two sons, Charlie Junior Smith and Ronnie Dean Smith; a grandson, Bobby Lee Smith preceded her in death.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Sigmon. Burial will follow at Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Jenkins Funeral Home.

W.J. (Dub) Thompson, 79, of Denver died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Sherrills Ford Hospice House.
Born William Jennings Thompson Jr. on July 20, 1934 to the late William Jennings (Jack) Thompson and Suevena (Sue) Gilleland Thompson. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church, and also attended Mt. Pleasant UMC, served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1957 on the USS Polk County and also served in the Naval Reserves. Dub retired from Duke Power after 35 years.
Survivors include wife of 55 years, Shelba Campbell Thompson of the home; sons, Curt Thompson of Denver, Derek Thompson and wife Jennifer of Denver; daughter, Angie Whitley and husband Bruce of Yadkinville; brother, Paul Garry Thompson and wife Debbie of Maiden; sister, Ann Goodson and husband Carroll of Maiden; grandchildren, Lauren Thompson, Josh Thompson, Austin Thompson, Alley Thompson and Audrey Whitley.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church. A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church in Maiden. Rev. Raymond Hamrick will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
