Local marine completes communication school
Marine Corps Private First Class Tommy Harkey has completed Field Radio Operator Communication School (FRCC). Harkey spent eight weeks at Marin Corps Communications School at Camp Wilson in 29 Palms, California, training to become a field radio operator.
During his time in 29 Palms, Harkey learned multiple radio systems and how to properly install and implement them in a field environment. Harkey spent roughly 35 hours of hands-on training, learning all the radios that were taught to him, as well as over 30 hours of scheduled physical training, ranging from circuit courses to running.
Harkey also had his knowledge tested with multiple-choice tests on each of the radios that he learned. The knowledge and experience that Harkey gained while in 29 Palms will ensure his success in the Fleet Marine Force.
Harkey is currently stationed at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He is the oldest son of Pyth and Amy Harkey of West Lincoln.
