Post 30 sweeps South Caldwell

Lane Hoover had four hits, and Frank Hatchett and Adam Campbell combined for a pair of shutouts as Lincolnton Post 30 downed South Caldwell B 5-0 and 4-0 in a Junior American Legion doubleheader at Lincolnton on Wednesday.
In Game 1, Hatchett scattered two hits across five innings, walked one and struck out five in the win. Hoover went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Langdon Givens went 2-for-2, Campbell had a hit and two RBIs and Daniel McBride and Austin Dellinger and a hit and an RBI each.
In Game 2, Campbell tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight in the win. He also doubled and drove in two runs, Hoover singled and Devoshe Odum had a hit and an RBI.
Post 30 (7-9) will host Shelby Post 82 on Saturday at 7 p.m.

NORTH LINCOLN BLACK 2, MINT HILL 1: At North Lincoln, the host team made the most of its two hits in the win.
Seth McCroie singled and scored a run, Carson Roberts singled and Will Harkey scored a run after reaching on a walk. Chris Jorgensen gave up two hits and struck out one in two scoreless innings for the win.
North Lincoln Black (9-5) travels to South Caldwell for a doubleheader on Monday.

WPIL BASEBALL

WEST LINCOLN 3, FRED T. FOARD 3; FRED T. FOARD 6, WEST LINCOLN 1: At Fred T. Foard, the Rebels and Tigers tied in Game 1, then the Tigers won Game 2 of their Western Piedmont Instructional League doubleheader on Tuesday.
In Game 1, Coltyn Miller went 2-for-3 with a double and Pate Craig had a hit and two RBIs to lead West Lincoln. Caleb Adams pitched four scoreless innings, giving up two hits, a walk and striking out four. Matt Bumgarner struck out the side in one perfect inning of work.
In Game 2, the Rebels were held to two hits –– a triple by Bumgarner and a single by Miller. Dalton Brooks drove in their lone run. Bumgarner picked up the loss, giving up one run on no hits and a walk in one inning of work.

SR. LEGION BASEBALL

POST 455 CHANGES SUNDAY’S GAME SITE: The Cardinals, who host the Carolina Heat on Sunday, will hold the game at East Lincoln at 7 p.m. instead of North Lincoln, as their schedule had originally indicated.
Lincoln County (4-6, 3-3 Area IV Eastern Division) will end a 12-day layoff on Saturday when it travels to Gastonia to play Post 23 at Sims Legion Park. The Cardinals last played on June 9, when it fell to Gastonia 10-7. They had two rainouts –– June 11 against Clover (S.C.) and June 13 against Mint Hill –– during that time. The non-division game against Clover will not be made up, and the postponed division game against Mint Hill is now part of a doubleheader at Mint Hill beginning at 5 p.m. on June 27.
