Julia Ella Mitchum Baxter
Julia Ella Mitchum Baxter, 95, a 50 year resident of Reep Drive in Morganton, died Thursday, June 12, 2014. Born in Lincoln County on October 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Clemmie O. Mitchum and Kimmie Jane Weathers Mitchum. Julia worked in a naval yard at Portsmouth, VA during WWII. Later, she retired from Broughton Hospital with thirty-seven years of service. She was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Leatherman and her husband, Buddy, of Vale; a granddaughter, Cassondra Ellen Leatherman; a great-grandson, Avree Casson McCoy Trivette; and a sister, Merlene Mitchum Yates of Morganton.
In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Dorce Baxter; two brothers, W. G. Mitchum and John H. Mitchum; and two sisters, Lily Mitchum and Ollie Frances Mitchum Kincaid.
The graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Jeremy Sapp officiating.

Mildred Louise Burgess Deon
Mildred Louise Burgess Deon, age 66, of Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2014.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ms. Deon was born August 28, 1947, in Lincoln County, to the late William Slade and Pansy Louise Bradshaw Burgess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Lee Burgess, William Ray Burgess, Calvin B. Burgess, and Troy E. Burgess; and sisters, Brenda Burgess Powell, Gloria Jean Burgess Ross, and Peggy Burgess Ross. She was retired from Easter Seals.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Wayne Grant with Lisa Ford at his side of Lincolnton and Danny Calvin Grant of Pineola; two daughters, Michelle Deon Minish and husband Donald of Lincolnton and Paula Lay Broschard and husband Richard of Mooresville; one brother, Billy Joe Burgess and wife Jeanette of Scranton, S.C.; three grandchildren, Lindsey Lay, Trinity Deon, and Madison Danielle Grant; step-granddaughter, Samantha Broschard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorine Talbert Engle
Lorine Talbert Engle, age 86, of 4316 Highway 27, East, in Iron Station, died on Thursday, June 12, 2014.
Her funeral service was 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. G.W. Horne and Rev. Jim Tate officiating. Burial followed in the Iron Station Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Engle was born February 7, 1928, in Catawba County, to the late Grier A. Talbert and Hilda Brotherton Talbert. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Garney Engle; grandson, Freddie Avery Jr.; and great-grandson, Robbie Caskey. She worked in textiles.
She is survived by three sons, Gene Engle and wife Ramona of Iron Station, Tom Engle and wife Patti of Lincolnton, and Gary Grhal of Iron Station; one daughter, Jeannette E. Avery and husband Freddie of Iron Station; four sisters, Julia “Judy Bell” Abernathy of Iron Station, Mary Wheeler of Alexis, Shirley Ward of Iron Station, and Rosie Culp of Denver; three grandchildren, Leann Engle, Heather E. Caskey, and Matthew Engle; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Engle, Carson Caskey, and Brody Engle.

Marvin Bailey House
Mr. Marvin Bailey House, age 72, of 1594 Apache Way, Ogden, Utah died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.
A memorial service for Mr. House will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 on the grounds of Jackie and Jeff Heinz, 832 S. Grandview Road, Clover, S.C. 29710.
Mr. House was born on July 4, 1941 in Gastonia. He lived in Utah for almost 40 years and always considered the South to be his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward House. Mr. House worked as an attorney at law and also as a pipe fitter in the petroleum refining industry. Marvin always said, “Jesus loves me and God is my friend.”
He is survived by his wife, Sonnet of Ogden, Utah; one son, Zachary House (Kelly) of Dallas; three brothers, Edward House (Emma) of Lincolnton, Samuel House (Barbara) of Fort Davis, Tex., Thomas House (Lisa) of Layton, Utah; his mother, Eva Goforth House of Fort Davis, Tex.; two grandchildren, Caleb House and Bailey House.

Lena Mae Colvard Kiser
Mrs. Lena Mae Colvard Kiser, age 93, of 440 Salem Church Road in Lincolnton passed away on Sunday, June 15, 1014. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kiser was born November 3, 1920 in Putnam County, Ga. She was one of seven children of the late Jacob P. and Nancy Florence Moore Colvard. The family relocated to North Carolina when Lena was two years old and she lived in the Lincolnton area until 2002 when she moved to the North Georgia Mountains. She returned to Lincolnton in 2008 and resided at Carillon Assisted Living – Garden Place, where she received wonderful loving care from the entire staff.
Lena was preceded in death by her loving husband James (Jim) Woodrow Kiser. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jewell Lee Colvard, Johnny Colvard, Sr., J.B. Colvard, M.D. Colvard, and her only sister, Irene Colvard Jordan.
She was a long time member of the Messiah United Methodist Church in Lincolnton. Over the years she was consistently involved in many activities of the church including the Choir, Bible School, Sunday School Teaching, and the United Methodist Women. Her kind smile and pleasant personality always showed clearly when she was pursuing the duties of the church.
Lena was employed in the local textile industry for 36 years and retired from the Crown Converting Company in 1986. After her retirement she continued to stay active in the church and in many local worthwhile projects including the Lincolnton Soup Kitchen and Good Neighbor Shop. She gave her time generously to those who benefited from her good nature, her smile, and her kindness. She frequently visited the local nursing home, bringing hope and smiles to the residents.
She is survived by her two children, Shelby (Peggy) Kiser Moore and husband Dave off Ellijay, Ga. and James William (Bill) Kiser and wife Kay of Vale; one brother, Frank Colvard and wife Ruth of Lincolnton, four sisters-in-law Mable Kiser Quickel, Sarah Kiser Brackett, Margaret Sue Kiser, and Hazel Kiser.
She had four grandchildren, Pati Moore Kelly and Angela C. Moore of Atlanta, Ga., James (Jimmy) William Kiser II and wife Holly of Cherryville, and Kim Kiser Doucette of Naples, Fla. She also had one great grandchild. Lena is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews.

Evan “Todd” Shelton
Mr. Evan “Todd” Shelton, age 49 of Vale, died on Saturday, June 14, 2014.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Marcus Redding officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home. At all other times the family will be at the home of his brother Eddie Shelton, 949 Royal Drive in Lincolnton.
Mr. Shelton was born on May 26, 1965 in Lincoln County to Martha Craig Shelton and the late Evan Boyd Shelton.
Survivors include his mother, Martha Craig Shelton of Lincolnton; Fiancé, Susan Cline of the home; two brothers, Eddie Shelton and wife Beth of Lincolnton, Harry Shelton and wife Linda of Lincolnton; three sisters, Patsy Lyles and husband Gary of Oak Island, Cecilia Shelton of Lincolnton, Tammy Hucks and husband Jimmy of Conway, S.C.; three nieces, Candra Marshall, Chrissy Wright and Heather Bowers; three nephews, Chris Shelton, Eddie Shelton, Jr. and Matthew Lyles.
