John P. ‘J.P.’ Beam
CHERRYVILLE — John P. “J.P.” Beam, age 94, of Johnstown Road died June 10, 2014 at Carolina Care Center. J.P. was born in Lincoln County, June 21, 1919 a son of the late John Pinkney Beam Sr. and Minnie Ellis Beam. J.P. was owner of Beam Dairy, he enjoyed farming, his family and was someone you could count on. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army WWII serving in the Aleutian Island Invasion.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ruth Huffsteller Beam; daughter, Tamera Ruth Beam; four brothers, M.D., Webb, Ishmael, Kyle Beam; sisters, Leitha B. Lewis and Altonia B. Skinner.
Survivors include two sons, John Beam (Babs), Don Beam (Carla) both of Cherryville; grandchildren, John Beam (Carly) of Cherryville, Laura Warren (Matthew) of Cherryville, Donnie Beam (Drew) of Lawndale, Dr. Tamara Beam Cox (Chris) of Lexington, Ky., Thomas Beam, Cherryville; great grandchildren, Suzanna Beam, John Beam, Kynleigh Warren, Caleb Warren and Colton Beam.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Key officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service.

Joe Wiley Goode
Joe Wiley Goode, 78, of Albemarle passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 in his home.
Born August 18, 1935 in Forest City, he was the son of the late Earl Goode and Ruby Owens Goode and was a retired Wildlife Officer with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
He is survived by his wife Helen S. Goode of the home and two brothers, Bob Goode of Lincoln Co., and Jim Goode of Lincolnton.
Arrangements are pending at Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle.
Evangeline Sparks Small
Evangeline Sparks Small, 92, of Lincolnton died on June 11, 2014.
A service to celebrate her life will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Dr. Stanley Spence officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
She was born in Fallston, on January 12, 1922. Her parents were the late Avery Roland Sparks and Ada Grigg Sparks. Mrs. Small was a graduate of Fallston High School as valedictorian of her class and Asheville Normal Teacher’s College. She taught school in Lincoln and Cleveland County schools for 35 years.
Mrs. Small was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Mrs. Small was an active member of First Baptist Church, Lincolnton, having served in Vacation Bible School and Training Union. She was a member of Lincoln Chapter #114 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Small, and her sisters, Mary Alice Sparks and Faye Robinson.
Survivors include two daughters and their spouses, Martha Small Stowe and Sam Stowe III of Belmont, and Roxanne Small and Randy Houser of Denver. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Amanda Stowe Hinson and husband Shawn Hinson, Rusty and Chris Stowe, and Lacey and Casey Small-Houser, and two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Hailey Hinson.

Benjamin Michael White, 38, of Burlington died June 10, 2014.
A graveside service will be held today at 4 p.m. in City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Guadalupe Linares-Gonzalez, 47, of Hickory died June 10, 2014.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 9 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory. The family received friends Thursday, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
