Estelle Cobb Long
STANLEY — Estelle Cobb Long, age 94, of Stanley Total Living Center, died on Monday, June 9, 2014.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Alexis Baptist Church with Rev. Sandy Marks and Rev. Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.
Mrs. Long was born April 4, 1920, in Lincoln County, to the late Grover A. and Gerthie Nantz Cobb. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth V. Long and two brothers, Walter Cobb and his wife, Josephine, and Robert Cobb. She worked in textiles.
She is survived by a son, Daniel A. Long of Stanley; two daughters, Carolyn Sellers and husband Joe of Mt. Holly and Joyce Lineberger and husband Neil of Gastonia; sister-in-law, Ann Cobb of Lincolnton; one granddaughter, Laura Bailey and husband John of Belmont; one great-granddaughter, Emily Zarate; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Robert Mac ‘Bob’ Ogburn
Robert Mac “Bob” Ogburn, 77, of Lincolnton died Monday, June 9, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born December 3, 1936 he was the son of the late Henley Ogburn and Estelle Ogburn. He worked as a pathologist assistant at Frye Regional Medical Center for 15 years. Bob thoroughly enjoyed life on their farm with all the animals. He loved nature and raising horses and cows. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the great outdoors.
His wife of 45 years, Martha J. Ogburn of the home; daughter, Susan Ogburn Strickland and husband Charles of Mooresville; three half brothers, Dick Tucker and wife Donna of S.C., Gary Tucker and wife Kathy of Lexington, Ky. and Bobby Tucker of Jenkins, Ky..; half-sister of Jenkins, Ky. and three grandchildren, Avery Strickland, Warren Strickland and Nolin Strickland and three great grandchildren survive him.
A sister, Michelle preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be at a later date.

Nathan Crawford Somers
DENVER — Nathan Crawford Somers, age 85, of Denver passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Carolina’s Health Care in Belmont. Born July 2, 1928 in Murphy, he was the son of the late Arthur Asbury Somers and the late Chloa Belle Jared Somers. He was a member of Thompson Chapel in Denver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene Rinehart Somers; two brothers, Howard and Herman Somers.
He is survived by three sons, Larry Somers and wife Kathy of Vale, Michael Somers of Statesville, David Somers and wife Robin of Denver; brother, Graham Somers of Charlotte; two sisters, Ruth Lewis of Denver, Esther Presswood of Alexis; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Thompson Chapel in Denver with Pastor James Torrence officiating. The body was in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton.

Alene Childers Lattimore, 82, of Lincolnton, died June 8, 2014.
Services were held June 10, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Riverview Baptist Church. The family received friends June 9, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home. Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Raymond “Bud” Hoppes
Raymond ‘Bud’ Hoppes of Maiden died June 8, 2014.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church, Newton. Burial will follow in the Maiden City Cemetery. Visitation was June 10, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church.

Johnnie Miles Simmons
Johnnie Miles Simmons, 73, of Claremont, died June 8, 2014.
A service to celebrate Johnnie’s life will be held today at 4 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Claremont. A reception will be held following the service in the Family Life Center.

Dorothy Diann Diamond Young
Dorothy Diann Diamond Young, 64, died June 7, 2014.
Funeral service is June 12, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Kenny Nicholas
Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Eugene Nicholas, 49, of Conover died June 9, 2014.
A funeral service will be held June 14, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
