TODAY
Kids camp

Registration is now available for Gaston and Lincoln County 6th-8th graders to attend “Camp Discover” 8:30-11:45 a.m. daily June 16-19 at the Gaston College-Dallas campus in Gastonia. Students will learn about radio and television broadcasting, technology careers, nursing, yoga, health and fitness, cosmetology, fire training, law enforcement, emergency medical services and more. Iron Station seniors
The Iron Station senior citizens will meet 12 p.m. for a covered dish lunch at Ironton Presbyterian Church.

Spay/neuter clinic
The Humane Society of Lincoln County will host registration for its upcoming low-cost spay/neuter clinic (June 24) 1-4 p.m. at 2422 Country Club Rd. in Lincolnton. Cats are $30 and dogs are $55. There is no additional cost for large animals or females in heat. Payment in the form of cash or check is due at registration. Blood drive

Cheer/football tryouts
West Lincoln Optimist Club will host cheerleading and football signups for fall 2014 6-7 p.m. at West Lincoln Optimist Park, 5959 N.C. 27 in Vale. Cost is $80 for football and $50 for cheerleading (uniform $150). Final payment is due July 15.

Sons of Confederate
The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1616 Gen. R. F. Hoke/Col. Wm. J. Hoke will meet 7 p.m. at the Cultural Center in Lincolnton. For more information, call Harmon Lackey at (704) 472-7980.

SATURDAY
Church breakfast

Marvin UMC, Startown Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a breakfast buffet 7-10 a.m. A $6 donation is suggested for the parsonage fund. The United Methodist Women’s group will also host a bake sale to benefit a local family’s medical expenses.

VBS kickoff
Faith Baptist Church, 5794 Old Plank Rd. in Iron Station, will host a kickoff event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Vacation Bible School, set for 6:30-8:15 p.m. daily June 16-20 (dinner at 5:45 p.m.). For more information, call (704) 735-9820.

Church concert

River Oaks Band
Bud Long’s River Oaks Band will perform 7 p.m. at 2910 Killian Rd. in Lincolnton. Children under 12 are not permitted. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center will host “Change the Course for Children” Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament with registration 11:30 a.m. and lunch at 12 p.m. A shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. The event will be at Glen Oaks Country Club in Maiden. Gospel festival
