Dr. John Reeves Gamble Jr.
Dr. John Reeves Gamble Jr., born March 26, 1922 in Lincolnton to the late Dr. John Reeves and Hope Seibert Gamble passed away June 2, 2014 in Lincolnton. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Rhodes Gamble, a brother Dr. James Seibert Gamble, and a sister Leanora Gamble Poag.
He is survived by three children, John R. Gamble III of Raleigh, Elizabeth Rhodes Gamble and her husband Peter R. Lichstein of Winston Salem and Mary Caroline Gamble of Advance; two grandchildren, Paul Michael Lichstein of Palo Alto, Calif. and Jesse Caroline Lichstein of Carrboro.
Dr. Gamble graduated from Lincolnton High School, Emory University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He did his training in surgery at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and Roanoke General Hospital. He served in the US Army as a MASH surgeon in Korea and Japan. He lived his life in Lincolnton and practiced at Reeves Gamble Hospital until it was donated to the county for the formation of the Lincoln County Hospital. He served multiple terms as Chair of the Lincoln County Commissioners and many terms in the NC Legislature.
The family will receive friends at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 1 p.m. Service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Hollybrook Cemetery.

Tanya Kay McClung, 41, of Denver passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 peacefully in her sleep after a long illness.
Born on January 17, 1973 in Cleveland, Ohio; Tanya was the daughter of the late Larry and Betty A. Belcher Burghy.
Tanya was a homemaker and resident of Denver for 17 years. She was raised in Matheny / Oceana, W.Va. and graduated from Oceana High School.
Besides her parents, Tanya was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert H. Long Jr. and Russell L. Long.
Tanya is survived by her husband, Thomas E. McClung Sr.; sons, Thomas E. McClung Jr. and Tyler McClung of Denver; brother, Kevin L. Long and his wife, Karen of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Laura A. Long Mellon and her husband, Mike of Kopperston, W.Va. and twin sister, Mary K. Burghy Adkins and her husband, Clark of Crouse; many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Westport Baptist Church, 2372 Lakeshore Rd. South; Denver, NC 28037.

Sheila Boyd Eggers
Sheila Boyd Eggers, 62, of Lincolnton, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 2, 2014.
A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Andy Royals and Butch Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Sheila was born June 10, 1951, in Lincoln County, to the late Marion and Gloria Houser Boyd. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Wayne “John” Boyd of Holden Beach. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and recently retired from Ethan Allen. Sheila was the Queen of the Red Hat Society and loved her fellow red hatters. She enjoyed life to the fullest and those who knew her will miss her smile and humor.
She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Danny Eggers; two daughters, Lisa Philbeck and husband Allen of Shelby, and Wendy Huffman of Hudson and her stepchildren, Cody Eggers and fiancée Carla of Calif. and Allison Chapman and husband T.J. of Conover; two sisters, Debbie Oxford and husband Rick of Lincolnton and Evette Drum and husband Tony of Newton; three special sisters-in-law, Cindy Cook, Sandy Huffman and Candy Tomblin; and four grandchildren, Landon Burns of the home; Elizabeth Drum, Nicholas Huffman, and Henry Chapman, all of whom she loved dearly.

Ethylene Ivester Ostwalt Roberts
Ethylene Ivester Ostwalt Roberts, age 81, formerly of Belmont, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2014 at CMC –Lincoln. A native of Habersham County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Joe and Lecy Eller Roberts, wife of the late C. M. Ostwalt.
She was a member of Alexander Memorial Baptist Church and had a strong faith in Jesus. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister who never met a stranger. Ethylene was an expert seamstress and trained under her late husband as a female boxer.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Ronnie Ivester of Gastonia, John Ivester and wife Jane of Gastonia, Eddy Ivester and wife Gail of Lincolnton, Rita Ivester of Montevallo, AL, Anita Davis of Lincolnton; brothers, William Roberts of Dallas, Claude Roberts of Demorest, Ga.; sisters, Willene Beck of Dawsonville, Ga., Cynthia Justice of Dahlonega, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday at McLean Funeral Directors, Belmont. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday at Alexander Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Larry Carl Turner Sr.
Larry Carl Turner Sr., 75, passed away in Black Mountain, on May 31, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born to Carl and Betty Turner on May 1, 1939 in Miami, Fla. Larry is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne Turner and his children, daughter Rhonda Harrill and husband Bo, daughter Andrea Hogg, daughter Dana Harrison, and husband Jack, son Larry Turner Jr.; five granddaughters, Alicia High and husband Lance, Tyler Harrill, Abby Hogg, Annsley and Jaclyn Harrison; two great-grandsons, Ryan Hodgins and Jake High. Survivors also include brother, Jim Turner and wife Pam, and sister, Carol Young and husband Ron.
Larry and Dianne began their married life in North Miami, Fla., and relocated to Atlanta, Ga. in 1971. After being transferred again in 1976 to Charlotte, the family settled in Denver and knew Lincoln County would be home for many years to come.
When he retired in 1989 from Lucent Technologies, Larry enjoyed spending time at the beach, playing golf and volunteering in the community. He was a Mason and Shriner, devoted to his family and always putting others first. His radiant smile and pleasing personality were contagious and will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center for the loving care Larry was given during the final stages of his journey. He was loved and cared for better than anyone could have ever expected.
Burial will be at State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
