Lincolnton icon Dr. John Gamble, Jr. dies

Dr. John R. Gamble, Jr., a local icon, died on Monday, CMC-Lincoln officials confirmed. He was 92 years old.
Gamble, a former Democratic county commissioner and state legislator, was known for his unceasing activity in his old age and his love of fishing. He was instrumental in the consolidation of the old Gamble and Crowell hospitals into the Lincoln County Hospital.
A cause of death was not immediately known.
