The Apple Queen Pageant has been a community staple for many years, recognizing a Lincoln County high school upperclassman or college student for her intelligence, professionalism, fitness and congeniality.
Applications are now being accepted for the 35th anniversary scholarship pageant, set for July 26 at the Citizens Center in downtown Lincolnton.
The event is sponsored each year by the Lincolnton Business & Professional Women’s Organization.
Local female residents are eligible to enter if they are at least a rising high school senior or no older than 23 by Sept. 30, pageant officials said.
The pageant kicks off the community’s fall Apple Festival, in which citizens gather each September to enjoy homemade crafts, tasty treats, children’s activities, musical entertainment, face painting, a petting zoo and rows of other vendors throughout the streets of downtown Lincolnton.
A select group of individuals will be chosen to participate in the summer scholarship event.
Pageant officials said only the first 20 qualified applicants will be allowed to compete.
The top four contestants will receive a cash prize to be used for furthering one’s education.
Prizes include a $3,000 scholarship for the top female — the Apple Queen — $1,500 for the first runner-up, $1,000 for the second runner-up and $750 for the pageant’s third runner-up.
A $500 prize will also be awarded to the most congenial contestant, dubbed “Miss Congeniality.”
Applications must be submitted by June 13 and are available by calling Holly Perkins at (704) 530-0846.
