Lincolnton Post 30 tops Gastonia


Lane Hoover went 4-for-5 with a triple and drove in a pair of runs and Lincolnton Post 30 scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to down Gastonia Post 23, 11-7, in a Junior American Legion baseball game in Gastonia on Wednesday.
T.J. Queen went 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Curtis Fisher had a hit and two RBIs, and Peyton Fisher, Hunter White, Austin Dellinger and Langdon Givens had a hit and an RBI each. Daniel McBride gave up two runs, none earned, on one hit, walked six and struck out 11 in three innings of relief for the win.
Post 30 (3-2) hosts Post 23 at 7 p.m. today.

CHERRYVILLE 5, NORTH LINCOLN BLACK 0: At Cherryville, the host team tossed a five-hit shutout for the win.
Nick Solomita (double) and Reid McCroie each went 2-for-2, and Daniel Thompson added a hit for North Lincoln Black. Ryan Smith gave up five runs, three earned, on five hits, walked four and struck out four in three innings of work in the loss.
North Lincoln Black (1-1) plays North Lincoln Blue at 5 p.m. today, then hosts East Lincoln today at 7.
CHERRYVILLE 8, NORTH LINCOLN BLUE 1: At Cherryville, the host team held North Lincoln Blue to three hits in the win.
Ethan Thornhill went 2-for-2 and drove in his team’s lone run. Will Thornhill gave up six earned runs on six hits, walked four and struck out three in the loss.
North Lincoln Blue (0-2) plays North Lincoln Black at 5 p.m. today.


CHERRYVILLE 6, GASTON BRAVES 5: At Gaston, Post 100 picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday. No other details were reported.
Cherryville (1-1) travels to Gastonia Post 23 for a 7 p.m. game today. It opens Area IV Western Division play on Saturday with a home game at 7 p.m. against Hickory Post 48.
LINCOLN COUNTY 13, CLOVER 3: At Clover, Post 455 took Game 2 of the doubleheader last Friday. Nathaniel Scoggins went 3-for-4 and Bryan Seymour and Nick Savoie had two hits each. Savoie picked up the pitching win.
Lincoln County (1-3) hosts the Gaston Braves at East Lincoln in the teams’ Area IV Eastern Division opener at 7 p.m. today.
CLOVER 8, LINCOLN COUNTY 7: At Clover, Post 455 dropped the first game of the doubleheader. J.T. Bowden and Bryan Seymour went 3-for-4 while Nick Savoie, Zac Reeder and Carson Philemon had two hits each.


ST. STEPHENS-WEST LINCOLN RAINED OUT: Thursday’s Western Piedmont Instructional League doubleheader between St. Stephens and host West Lincoln was rained out. No make-up date was announced.
