North Lincoln senior Ryan Shannon followed up his Midwest 3A regional title in the 3,200 meters by winning silver at the NCHSAA state 3A track and field championships on Friday at N.C. A&T University.
Shannon, who has signed to run cross country and track at Appalachian State, finished second to East Henderson’s Tanis Baldwin, by 27-100ths of a second. Baldwin completed the event in 9:26.31 while Shannon came in at 9:26.58.
Knights senior Andrew Fea, who has signed with Wake Forest University and won two regional titles –– the 1,600-meter run and the 800-meter run –– finished third and ninth, respectively, in those events.
Fea’s bronze followed second-place Baldwin and came in at 4:20.51, more than four seconds behind gold winner Philip Hall of Fayetteville Sanford. North Lincoln’s Zach Wesson finished eighth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:28.39.
Senior Caitlin Potter, who has signed with South Carolina, finished just off the podium at fourth in the girls 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.02.
Allie Castro, who has signed with Georgia, finished fifth in the 1,600 meters (5:07.20) and sixth in the 3,200 meters (11:22.85).
Lyndsi Pound finished 15th in the 300-meter hurdles (51.63 seconds), and senior Chase Stehling, a Western Carolina signee for football and track and field, finished seventh in the shot put (50 feet, 5.5 inches).
