Deputies: Man who raped teen on the loose

Staff Writer

A Lincolnton man is wanted for raping a teen earlier this year, deputies said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Friday afternoon seeking the public’s help in locating Jose Manuel Palafox Vasquez, 25, of 410 South Flint Street.
Deputies said the suspect goes by the alias “Cristian Aponte Rivera” and works at the RSI Home Products plant in Maiden, where he was last seen on May 12.
The agency issued felony warrants for the man’s arrest after the victim’s parents reported the incident to law enforcement on Tuesday, the release said.
Vasquez is charged with one felony count of rape/sex act with a person 13-, 14- or 15-years-old by a defendant at least six years older than the victim.
The alleged sexual assault took place on Feb. 28 at the victim’s Lincolnton home.
Vasquez and the teen knew each other through church, deputies said.
The at-large suspect is said to be driving a green, four-door 1995 Toyota Corolla with North Carolina license plate ADS-5194, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies entered his information into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), with more charges in the case still pending, the release said.
Individuals with information in the case or knowledge of the whereabouts of Vasquez are asked to contact Det. Sally Dellinger or Det. Dan Renn at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 732-9050 or call the Lincoln County Communications Center at (704) 735-8202 or Crimestoppers at (704) 736-8909.
