City hires new finance director

A familiar face in the county’s public sector will soon be leading Lincolnton’s Finance Department.

Steve Zickefoose, Assistant Superintendent for Business with Lincoln County Schools, has been selected to serve as the city’s Finance Director, according to city manager Jeff Emory. This comes only a month after Zickefoose announced his upcoming retirement in June from the school system.

After an extensive review of applications and interviews, Emory felt that Zickefoose was the perfect fit for the position.

“For the past 22 years, Steve has been employed by the Lincoln County Schools as the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Officer,” Emory said in an email. “He has extensive experience in budgeting, purchasing, accounting, auditing, risk management, fixed assets and payroll. I believe this experience will be a great asset for the city.”

Zickefoose will be replacing the city’s most recent finance director, Georgetta Williams. The Times-News reported that last month, Williams was honored on her upcoming retirement from the City of Lincolnton Finance Department. She began work in the department as an accounting clerk in 1987 and ultimately was promoted as the finance director in 2006.

According to Emory, Zickefoose will begin his official duties with the city on July 1.
