A Catawba County man was rushed to an area hospital Thursday evening after his vehicle overturned on a ramp off U.S. 321 in Lincolnton.

Troopers said Jesus Diaz Flores, 30, of Hickory, was taken by ambulance to Catawba Valley Medical Center after his Ford Explorer overturned on the ramp at Exit 24.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m., Sgt. K.B. Joines said.

Officers believed speed contributed to the crash and that the driver, more than likely, was going at least 45 mph around the ramp’s curve.

Troopers expect to charge Flores with exceeding safe speed and having no operational license, Joines said.

The ramp was shutdown for a brief period following the crash while Hampton’s Wrecker Service in Lincolnton removed the vehicle from the scene.

Lincolnton Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services also responded to the incident.

Flores sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be OK, Joines said.
