Lincoln Charter baseball, softball teams advance to SP1A tourney title games

Lincoln Charter’s baseball team gets another shot at Cherryville.
The host Eagles plated eight runs in the first inning on their way to a 17-2 romp over Bessemer City in five innings in the semifinals of the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference tournament on Thursday.
Third-seeded Lincoln Charter (16-6) heads to top-seeded Cherryville, a 13-3 winner over Community School of Davidson in the other semifinal, today for the title game slated to begin at 7 p.m.
The Ironmen (17-6) swept the season series from the Eagles, who has had 30 hits in his last two games –– 16 against the Yellow Jackets.
Andy Jones (2-for-4, two RBIs, two runs), Nick Roser (double, sac fly, three RBIs, two runs), Nathaniel Scoggins (3-for-3, three RBIs, three runs), Christian Hilty (3-for-4, RBI, two runs), Matt Stokes (2-for-3, two RBIs), Ian Chryst (3-for-3, four RBIs, two runs) and Zach Hollar (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs, three runs) led the Eagles. Hilty gave up two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out five in the win.

NEWTON-CONOVER 3, EAST LINCOLN 2: At the Legion Fairground in Hickory, the seventh-seeded Red Devils upset the No. 3 Mustangs in the semifinals of the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference tournament. No other details were reported.
East Lincoln (12-13) will open the state playoffs against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday.
ALEXANDER CENTRAL 7, NORTH LINCOLN 5: At North Lincoln, the Knights were eliminated in the semifinals of the North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference tournament on Wednesday.
Ty Pauley (2-for-3, double, two RBIs), Zac Reeder (single), Brady Drennen (double) and Zach Avery (single) led the Knights, who trailed 7-2 before rallying with three runs in the seventh. Paul Cochrane gave up six runs, three earned, on four hits, walked three and struck out two in the loss.
North Lincoln (12-12-1) will open the state playoffs against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday.
LINCOLN CHARTER 15, THOMAS JEFFERSON CLASSICAL ACADEMY 9: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles won in the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday.
Andy Jones (hit, RBI), Kameron Reynolds (triple, four RBIs), Nathaniel Scoggins (2-for-5, triple, two runs), Christian Hilty (2-for-4, double, two RBIs), Barry Cheek (2-for-4, two RBIs), Adam Hutson (3-for-3, RBI, two runs), Ian Chryst (home run, three RBIs) and Zach Hollar (2-for-2, RBI, two runs) led the Eagles. Scoggins gave up three runs on two hits, walked none and struck out eight in four innings in the win.

SOFTBALL
LINCOLN CHARTER 14, HIGHLAND TECH 0: At Lincoln Charter, the top-seeded Eagles smacked the Rams Thursday to advance to the finals of the SP1A tournament. No other details were reported.
Lincoln Charter (16-4) will host third-seeded Cherryville, a 16-5 winner over Bessemer City, in the championship at 5:45 today.

GIRLS SOCCER
LINCOLN CHARTER 8, HIGHLAND TECH 0: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles swept the season series from the Rams on Wednesday.
Kali Snider (three), Tori Jackson (two), Kelly Wilkins, Seraiah Murray and Rachel Medina scored goals for Lincoln Charter. Caitlyn Miller (two), Jackson, Medina and Jordan Taylor had the assists. Kait Ashby had two saves in goal and Murray had one save in goal for the Eagles, who outshot the Rams 27-3.
Lincoln Charter (16-5, 8-1) faces league-leader Community School of Davidson today in the regular season finale.
