A Caldwell County man was indicted this week on rape charges from a 2012 case involving a Lincoln County teen, deputies said.
A grand jury returned a true bill of indictment Monday against Matthew Chad Beaver, 35, whose last known address was 2270 Perry Lane in Lenoir, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Beaver was sexually involved on more than one occasion in March 2012 with a teen he knew.
The alleged incidents took place at the suspect’s home, agency officials said.
Investigators learned about Beaver in February after the Department of Social Services contacted them with the case information, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detective Dan Renn further investigated the accusations, leading to Beaver’s arrest in March.
The suspect was placed under an $80,000 secured bond and charged with two felony counts each of statutory rape of a 13-, 14-, or 15-year-old by a defendant six years older and statutory sex offense of a 13-, 14-, or 15-year-old by a defendant six years older.
A judge later doubled his bond to $160,000, but Beaver eventually secured release.
Beaver has drug-related convictions on his criminal record, according to the North Carolina Department of Correction website.
The offenses occurred in 1997 in Caldwell County.
Once again under an $80,000 secured bond, Beaver has been indicted on all charges in the case.
