Adopt-a-Cop

The 23rd Annual Adopt-A-Cop picnic for Lincoln County second graders will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Betty G. Ross Park, Madison St. in Lincolnton.

Relay Bank Night

East Lincoln Relay for Life will host a Bank Night 3-5 p.m. at Bank of America at the corner of N.C. 16 and N.C. 73 in Denver.

Art Crawl forum

The Downtown Development Association (DDA) will host an Art Crawl Open Forum 6 p.m. at the Cultural Center to discuss the recent spring event and the upcoming fall crawl. DDA officials are encouraging local businesses, artists, musicians, vendors and other citizens to attend the meeting with their ideas. For more information, call (704) 736-8915.

 Widowed group

Widowed Group of the Greater Gaston Area will host a covered dish dinner 6 p.m. at the Gaston County Resource Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. in Dallas. The program “How to Choose and How to be Chosen: Dating After a Loss” will follow with speaker and counselor Marcia Thompson.

Apron workshop cancelled

A Memory Apron Workshop scheduled for today at the Lincoln County Senior Center has been cancelled. A special reception for those involved with the project will take place instead starting 10 a.m. at 514 S. Academy St. on the Gaston College-Lincoln campus in Lincolnton.

 Fish/chicken fry

Westside House of Prayer will host a fish and chicken fry 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Howards Creek Community Center, 494 Howards Creek Sch. Rd. in Lincolnton. The event will benefit Ricky Auton’s medical expenses. Cost is $8 per plate.

 BBQ fundraiser

West Lincoln High School’s “Rebel” band will sell BBQ chicken plates for $8 each 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school, 172 Shoal Rd. in Lincolnton. Pickup will be in the new gym lobby. Relay for Life

East Lincoln Relay for Life will be 6 p.m. through 9 a.m. Saturday at East Lincoln High School in Denver. A survivor victory lap will be at 6:15 p.m. For more information on the event, visit relayforlife.org and enter keywords “East Lincoln” into the search bar. Money raised benefits the American Cancer Society and the local community.

 Senior dance

Gaston County Parks & Recreation will host a senior dance for ages 55 and up 7-10 p.m. at the Gaston County Senior Center, 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. in Dallas. Cost is $4. For more information, call (704) 92-2170.

Yard sale

North 321 VFD, U.S. 321 Exit 28 in Maiden, will host a community yard sale and hot dog/hamburger sale 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost for vendor space is $8 (must bring own table). For more information, call Dwight (6-9 p.m. only) at (704) 530-4158.

Church breakfast

Marvin UMC, Startown Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a breakfast buffet 7-10 a.m. A $6 donation is suggested to benefit the parsonage fund.

Fishing event

Gaston County Parks & Recreation will host “Fun Fishing Day” 8-11 a.m. at George Poston Park, 1101 Lowell Spencer Mountain Rd. in Gastonia. For more information, call (704) 922-2160.

Food giveaway

A food handout will start 8 a.m. at Pisgah UMC, 2582 Gastonia Hwy. in Lincolnton, in cooperation with Christian Ministry of Lincolnton, Second Harvest Food Bank of Charlotte, Laboratory UMC, and the network churches with the Lincolnton’s Methodist on a Mission group. Food will be handed out to USDA-qualified individuals or SNAP.

Music festival

National Stamp Out Hunger

Residents are encouraged to collect and bag non-perishable food items and place them by the mailbox for a letter carrier to deliver to a local food bank or pantry. For more information, visit Facebook.com/StampOutHunger.

Golf tournament

Yard/bake sale 

Bethphage Lutheran Church, 4060 N.C. 182 in Lincolnton, will host a yard and bake sale with breakfast biscuits 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Library butterfly party

The Lincoln County Public Library will host a “Fancy Nancy Butterfly Party” 3-4:30 p.m. at the Florence Shanklin Library, 7837 Fairfield Forest Rd. in Denver and at the West Lincoln Library, 5545 W. N.C. 27 in Vale. The event is for children ages K through 4th grade and their special guests (one per child) and will include dress-up, crafts, dance lessons and a butterfly hunt. GED registration

Gaston College will offer a Basic Skills Orientation Class 5:30-8:30 p.m. nightly today through May 15 in room 118 of the Lincoln campus, 511 S. Aspen St. in Lincolnton. New and returning students interested in completing the Adult High School or GED Programs must take the class in order to be eligible for a free scholarship to pay for the GED test. Reunion committee

The reunion committee for the second annual LHS reunion for graduating classes from 1960-70 will meet 6 p.m. at Citizens Sprinkler Inc., 405 N. Poplar St. in Lincolnton.
