Three pipe bombs exploded early Monday morning in a neighborhood on Lincoln County’s eastern end, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Officers with the Gaston County Police Department Bomb Squad assisted local deputies at the scene.
The Communications Center received a call about one explosion just before 1 a.m. and issued a LincAlert message, warning area residents about the incident.
The explosion produced flames on the lawn of a home in the 5900 block of Dalmatian Street, off N.C. 73 in Iron Station, a Sheriff’s Office press release said.
Bomb squad officers discovered remnants of three exploded pipe bombs and one undetonated bomb lying in the roadway, deputies said.
The specialized team set it off in a safe manner, according to the release. The device consisted of a foot-long piece of PVC pipe attached to a propane container.
No injuries occurred in the incident, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Officials with the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responded to the site around 4 a.m. to assist the investigation.
Only residents are allowed to access the neighborhood at this time. All other traffic will be routed around the area, deputies said.
No arrests have been made in the case at this time.
