Lincoln County will be well represented at this weekend’s state 1A and 2A track and field championships.
By finishing in the top four in their respective 1A and 2A West regional events on Saturday, Lincoln Charter qualified five for the NCHSAA state 1A track and field championships. East Lincoln is sending six to the 2A championships, Lincolnton four and West Lincoln two.
The 1A state championships will be held this Friday and the 2A on Saturday. Both will be at N.C. A&T University in Greensboro.
The 3A Midwest regionals –– which involves North Lincoln –– will be held on Saturday at Marvin Ridge High. The 3A state finals will be held at N.C. A&T on May 16.
The county had one regional champion over the weekend –– East Lincoln’s 4-by-800-meter girls relay team, made up of Shelbee Knopf, Meagan Rowles, Elizabeth Sisk and Madison Rowles. The quartet finished in 10:40.43, nearly 17 seconds full seconds ahead of the second-place team from Rutherfordton-Spindale Central.
