An area teen is accused of choking a dog during an argument with his mother, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to 3999 Benny Shrum Lane in Maiden on Monday in reference to a domestic disturbance, according to an agency arrest report.
Jason Tyler Hilderbran, 18, was holding tightly to his mother’s Chihuahua when officers arrived at the home, the report said.
The teen decided to choke the small canine because it was barking at him and wouldn’t stop, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect’s mother was trying to retrieve the dog from her son at the time, but he refused to hand it over, according to the report.
Hilderbran was arrested and charged with one count each of cruelty to animals and assault on a female by a male over 18 years of age.
He has since been released on a $3,000 secured bond.
The dog was not injured in the incident, deputies said.
