North Lincoln has added another conference boys golf title to its already-long list of championships.
The Knights finished second to Lake Norman in the North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference tournament match on Monday, but throughout the course of the season they were 17 strokes better than the Wildcats in all to win their seventh consecutive league title and ninth overall.
North Lincoln’s Alston Taylor and Lake Norman’s Jonathan Moon shared medalist honors Monday with a pair of 1-over 73s.
Nick Steele of North Lincoln finished third with a 76.
The Wildcats, who won their fourth straight conference match, shot a team score of 309 at Mooresville Municipal Golf Course, while the Knights finished three shots back.
Other scorers for North Lincoln were Jake Haynes (84), Ben Hager (82), Aaron Digh (81) and Zach McKinney (91).
The Knights qualified for the Midwest 3A regional tournament at Kannapolis’ The Club at Irish Creek on Tuesday of next week. South Iredell took the other spot in the 3A Midwest regional.
North Lincoln, which had a NP3A/4A season total of 1,563 strokes to Lake Norman’s 1,580, won state 2A titles in 2009 and 2010, and has finished as the 2A runner-up the last three seasons.
LINCOLN CHARTER 2, PINE LAKE PREP 1: At Pine Lake Prep, the Eagles stayed undefeated in Southern Piedmont 1A Conference play with the win on Monday.
The teams played to a draw in the first half, then Lincoln Charter’s Kali Snider broke the scoreless tie in the 45th minute on a corner-kick assist from Tori Jackson. The Eagles went up 2-0 in the 53rd minute on a direct kick by Jackson before Pine Lake Prep got on the board in the 59th minute.
Katherine Doyle had eight saves in goal for the Eagles, who outshot PLP 25-15.
Lincoln Charter (13-4, 5-0) is scheduled to host Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy today.
