LCS officials halt play due to storm threat

The storms may have held off in Lincoln County on Tuesday, but county school officials preferred to be safe rather than sorry.
In the wake of the threat of severe weather, Lincoln County Schools Associate Superintendent Matthew Stover sent out a memo via email Tuesday afternoon to area athletic directors and administrators saying all after school activities Tuesday and today were to be canceled or postponed.
By then most games had already been postponed, but some of them were to be rescheduled for today.
Not anymore.
The email stated all games to be called off, and, if necessary, rescheduled. Teams have canceled any practices as well.
The majority of Tuesday’s postponements, following word from the central office, have been rescheduled for Friday –– formerly a day off for teams in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A and North Piedmont 3A/4A conferences.
Here is a list of Tuesday’s postponements reported to the Lincoln Times-News:
• Baseball and softball: East Lincoln at Maiden, West Caldwell at Lincolnton, Statesville at North Lincoln and West Lincoln at Bandys, all rescheduled for Friday.
• Girls soccer: Maiden at East Lincoln (sites were switched) and West Caldwell at Lincolnton, rescheduled for Friday; West Lincoln at Bandys, rescheduled for next Tuesday.
• Track and field: North Piedmont 3A/4A championships at South Iredell are now a one-day event and will be held on Thursday.
• Boys tennis: Lincolnton versus Monroe Central Academy at Monroe High School in the first round of the NCHSAA state 2A dual-team playoffs will be played on Thursday.
Today’s Bandys at East Lincoln softball game, North Lincoln at Lake Norman girls soccer match and a SD-7 golf match at Lincoln Country Club were also postponed, but make-up dates for these contests have not been determined or reported to the LTN.
Lincoln Charter is not a member of LCS, so its games scheduled for today –– softball at Concord Robinson and soccer at home against Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy –– were still on as scheduled as of Tuesday evening.
The Eagles did not have any contests scheduled on Tuesday.
