An area teen is accused of choking a dog during an argument with his mom this week, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to 3999 Benny Shrum Lane in Maiden on Monday in reference to a domestic disturbance, according to an agency arrest report.
Jason Tyler Hilderbran, 18, was holding tightly to his mom’s Chihuahua dog when officers arrived at the home, the report said.
The teen decided to choke the small canine because it was barking at him, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect’s mom was also trying to retrieve the dog from her son at the time, but he refused to hand it over, according to the report.
Hilderbran was arrested and charged with one count of cruelty to animals.
He has since been released on a $1,000 secured bond.
The dog was not injured in the incident, deputies said.
