A Lincolnton man was placed behind bars Monday for his alleged involvement in a sex-related incident with a teen girl this month, deputies said.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Dan Renn arrested Timothy Dennis Belton, 26, and charged him with one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child.

Belton inappropriately touched a 13-year-old female on April 22 while she visited his home, located at 1037 Hollow Oak Lane, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Belton appeared before a Lincoln County district court judge on Tuesday through video arraignment, Clerk of Court officials said.

Defense Attorney Greg Smith was assigned to represent Belton, whose probable cause hearing is slated for May 8.

He remains in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
