Elaine Huffman Garner

Elaine Huffman Garner, age 71, of 809 Danbrook Circle in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wyant officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Friday in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Garner was born September 7, 1942, in Catawba County to the late Boyce C. and Antha Mae Gilleland Huffman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, McCoy Huffman.

She is survived by her husband, Max H. Garner of the home; two sons, Max H. Garner Jr., and wife Debra of Sandy Hook, Va. and Marc Garner and wife Angela of Crouse; daughter, Mollie Garner of Lincolnton; and three grandchildren, Mathew Garner and wife Sarah of Goochland, Va., Brandon Garner of Sandy Hook, Va., and Zack Garner of Crouse.

Ava Grace Mosteller

VALE — Ava Grace Mosteller, infant, died on Friday, April 18, 2014.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in the Salem Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Ken Gibson officiating.

She is survived by her parents, Brandon and Ashleigh Mosteller of the home; a brother, Sawyer James Mosteller of the home; maternal grandparents, Jamie and Jenny Mosteller of Huntersville and Brendan and Kelly Scott of Lincolnton; paternal grandparents, Timmy and Christine Mosteller of Lincolnton; and great-grandparents, Frankie and Sharon Mosteller of Lincolnton, Dean and Ginger Lutz of Lincolnton, and Mamie Mosteller of Lincolnton.

Kenneth Marvin Hamrick

MORAVIAN FALLS — Kenneth Marvin Hamrick, 70, of Moravian Falls formerly of Gastonia passed away on April 21, 2014 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1944 in Lincoln County to the late Dewey Creighton and Emma Hawkins Hamrick.

Kenneth served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy, Dean, Johnny and Butch.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Kathy Phillips Hamrick; daughters, Scarlett Kay Hamrick of Moravian Falls, Kim Hamrick of Gastonia, Kellie Hamrick Lafar and husband Sean of Surf City; godchildren, Dillon Gooch and Kayla Gooch; brother, Raymond Jerry Hamrick Sr. of Lincolnton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Sisk-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, Bessemer City with Pastor Kevin Brinegar officiating.

Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City with military rites by the Bessemer City American Legion Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Franklin Blair Abernethy

NEWTON — Franklin Blair Abernethy, age 90, of Newton, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton.

Born January 31, 1924 in Lincolnton, he was the son of the late Lester Franklin Abernethy and Inez Rudesill Abernethy.  A veteran of the United States Navy, he served 2½ years in the South Pacific. He retired from Duke Power in 1983 with 47 years of service.

Frank was a lifetime member of First Methodist Church in Lincolnton and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and enjoyed travel with the Navy Reunion Group for 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Abernethy and wife, Jean; sister, Virginia Edwards and husband, Lyle.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Carpenter Abernethy; sister, Celeste Jonas and husband, Harvey Jonas, and a
number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel in Lincolnton today at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Wyantt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home, 125 Dave Warlick Dr., Lincolnton, NC  28092.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Methodist Church, 201 E Main St., Lincolnton, NC  28092 or to Lions Club International, 300 W 22nd St., Oak Brook, IL  60523-8842.

Marsha Ann Myers, 68, of Lincolnton died April 7, 2014.

A memorial service was held April 22, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lincolnton. The family received friends following the service.

Jerry Lee Beam, 67, of Kings Mountain died April 18, 2014.

Kelvin “Big Kevin” Douglas Ferguson, 41, of Newton died April 20, 2014.

A funeral service will be held April 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Covenant Christian Church in Newton. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends on April 24, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton.

John David Kilby

John David Kilby, 76, of Cherryville died on April 19, 2014.

Visitation will be today April 23, 2014 from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville. Burial will follow in the Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Elsie Sigmon Smith, 88, of Vale died April 21, 2014.

A Service of Remembrance was held April 22, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Plateau United Methodist Church in Vale. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends April 22, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Plateau United Methodist Church.

Betty Gay Mathews, 60, of Hickory died April 15, 2014.
