April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

AMY WADSWORTH

This month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families. Communities are encouraged to share child abuse and neglect prevention awareness strategies and activities and promote prevention across the country.
Sherry Reinhardt, Executive Director of the Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse said that all children need safe, stable, nurturing environments to thrive.
“When children experience abuse and neglect the architecture of their maturing brains is damaged. If left unaddressed this leads to poor outcomes for the child and the community,” Reinhardt said. “These effects include academic failure, chronic long-term health issues, and increased crime rates and violence.”
Prevent Child Abuse Gaston joins the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout the month of April, display a pinwheel in your yard or business to show you will help fight against Child Abuse and Neglect. For more information visit, www.pinwheelsforprevention.org.
