Earth Day celebration a success

Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 as a day intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural resources. The Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District and the Lincoln Natural Resources Committee sponsored an Earth Day Celebration at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on April 12. This event featured informational booths as well as crafts and activities for the entire family. The Local Government Federal Credit Union sponsored the paper shredding truck. There was approximately 2,400-lbs. of paper shredded, which will help prevent identity theft. Operation Medicine Drop Box sponsored by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office collected two boxes of medicine. We hope to make this an annual event.

We would like to thank all the volunteers who graciously gave of their time to staff the booths in order to help bring awareness to the importance of our natural resources. We would like to thank Emmanuel Lutheran Church for being a partner for this worthwhile event and allowing us to use the church property.

We are grateful for the coverage the local newspapers provided for this event. Thanks to the community for participating in the Earth Day Celebration and Spring Fling.

ACA a tax that supports a religion

I wish to posit, first, that Secular Humanism is a religion. My understanding is that it is incorporated as such under the laws of the United States and has received a tax-exempt status as a religion. It has also recently sought to have the United States military accept Secular Humanists as Chaplains.

As an American, I defend their right to be a religion and practice their religion as they see fit. One of their accepted practices is human sacrifice in the form of abortion — “my body, my choice.” If they wish to kill themselves as an expression of their particular religion, that is their right.

The Affordable Care Act, according to the majority opinion of the Supreme Court, is a federal tax. This results in using a tax to support and promote a tenant of a religion, thereby causing the federal government to violate the First Amendment clause concerning the establishment of religion.

It may be argued that the federal government supports the tenants of other religions. However, the commandment “you shall have no other gods” is replaced by Gross National Product and IRAs. “You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain” is replaced by public profanity of our highest officials. As for not bearing false witness, watch some government hearings on C-SPAN.
