John William Ross
Mr. John William Ross, age 84, of 131 S J Crawford Road in Lincolnton, died on Saturday, April 12, 2014.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrel Bost and Rev. Hinkle Rayfield officiating. Burial will follow in Landers Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Ross was born October 26, 1929, in Gaston County to the late Robert Benjamin and Pearl Hefner Ross. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ola Mae Payseur Ross. He was retired from Cochrane Furniture. Mr. Ross loved the Lord and his family, gardening and farming. He was a member of Arrowood Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda York and husband Edward of Lincolnton, Regina Miller and husband Richard of Denver; two brothers, Robert (Bob) Ross of Lincolnton, Floyd Ross of Lincolnton; one sister, Frances Ballenger of Lincolnton; two grandsons, Edward York and Sabastian Sigmon; two granddaughters, Audrey York and Blaze Sigmon; one great-grandson, John William Avery.

Doris Lane Sturdivant Ballard
IRON STATION — Doris Lane Sturdivant Ballard, 75, died April 12, 2014.
She was born in Durham, daughter of the late Clarence T. and Roberta Brown Sturdivant, was retired from Southern Forest Products in Mt. Holly, and was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Survivors include her husband, David R. Ballard; three daughters, Tamara Ellis of Spruce Pine, Karen Ballard of Charlotte, Angela Haney of Denver; son, David Ballard Jr. of Mt. Holly; sister, Barbara Ann Hawkins and husband Robert of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; one great grandson; nephew, Brad Hawkins and wife Lisa; and a grandniece, Dakoda Hawkins.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday April15, 2014 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Alexis with Reverends Chase White and Cecil Ballard officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Hazel Caldwell Freeman
Mrs. Hazel Caldwell Freeman, age 80, of 3012 Brady Hoffman Road in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, April 13, 2014.
Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy McAbee officiating. Burial will follow in Laboratory United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Freeman was born May 26, 1933, in Lincoln County to the late George S. and Ida Pate Caldwell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. F. Doyle Freeman; one brother, Claude Caldwell; two sisters, Mildred Baird and Ethel Payseur. Mrs. Freeman retired from Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church where she was the organist for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Freeman and Michael Freeman of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Joseph Freeman of Charlotte, Michael Freeman of Greensboro, Sara Freeman of Winston-Salem and Zachary Freeman of Pembroke.

Mr. Ralph Blaine Engle, age 82, of 217 Nicholson Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, April 11, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Ralph was born April 14, 1931, in Lincoln County to the late Jake and Dora Lackey Engle. He was a homebuilder.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Goodson Engle of the home; a son, Mark Engle of Lincolnton; four daughters, Ralphine Engle Reynolds and husband Roy of Lincolnton, Lou Ann Adams and husband Freddie of Lincolnton, Nina Engle Bumgarnder of Lincolnton, and Tara Engle Crotts and husband Jeff of Lawndale; a sister, Prue Engle Gantt of Vale; sixteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Lee Randall, 90, of Cherryville died April 10, 2014 at the Brian Center, Lincolnton. She was born on October 12, 1923 iin Lincoln county a daughter of the late Raymond and Carrie McGinnis Randall. She was a retired inspector for Varat Sportswear and liked music especially the Lawrence Welk Show.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 3 PM at City Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends Sat. at Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services from 1:30-2:30 PM and at other times at the home of Tom and Judy Randall.
