Joyce King Hoyle

Joyce King Hoyle, age 64, of 1312 Mirror Lake Road in Lincolnton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2014.

Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Pearl Baptist Church with Rev. Malcolm Ivey, Rev. Alan Wheeler, and Rev. Jeff Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Joyce was born February 1, 1950, in Gaston County to the late Walter Clyde King, Sr. and Blanche Carrol King. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who faithfully loved her church and church family. When Joyce wasn’t busy working as a beautician, she enjoyed spending her time in the kitchen.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wayne Hoyle; two daughters, Lisa Hoyle (Robert Cook ) of Clover, S.C. and Dana (Charles) Simpson of Alexis; one brother, W.C. King, Jr. (Jackie) of Kinston; one granddaughter, Sengla Inthanonh; and one grandson, Austin Simpson.

Lloyd David Houser

MAIDEN — Lloyd David Houser, age 70, of 3304 Anderson Mountain Road in Maiden, died on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy McAbee officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery in Catawba. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home.

Lloyd was born March 5, 1944, in Rutherford County to the late Leonard Dewitt and Verlie Mae Queen Houser. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Houser, a son, Dennis Wayne Houser, and a sister, Helen Houser. He was the owner of Houser Rollback.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Neal Houser of the home; five brothers, John Houser of Lincolnton, J.D. Houser of Bostic, Henry Houser of Lincolnton, Clinton Houser of Delaware, Okla., and Walt Houser of Lincolnton; three sisters, Ethel Propes of Bostic, Grace Lovelace of Lincolnton, and Libby Smith of Bostic; three grandchildren, Jeff Houser, Dana Hillman, and Ricky Hillman, all of Trinity; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clinard Elliott “Bud” Coffey

Clinard Elliott “Bud” Coffey, age 77, of 1853 Cameron Road in Lincolnton passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 6, 2014, with his loving family by his side.

A private graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in the David Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lewis Lowery officiating. A Southern Gospel singing service will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Coffey was born in Lincoln County, NC to the late Clinard and Bryte Beal Coffey. Bud was a lifelong resident of Lincolnton. Bud spent his youth on the mill hill at Rhodes Rhyne in Lincolnton and always took pride that he lived there and learned many of life’s lessons while growing up there. He attended Lincolnton High School, but always said he was a graduate of the “school of hard knocks.” Bud was well-known for his truly great sense of humor and his beautiful singing voice. He sang praises to God for over 40 years. He sang with the Song Masters and the Southerner’s Quartets. Bud retired from the NC Department of Corrections after more than 30 years of service. He was an avid Carolina Panther and UNC Tarheel fan. He also loved watching NASCAR racing and listening to the Cathedrals Quartet.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Sue Davis Coffey; two sons, Kevin (Lanelle) Coffey and Jeff (Anna) Coffey; a daughter, Sue Ellen (Coffey) Ingle; grandchildren, Brent (Nicole) Coffey, Abbey Coffey, Brooke Owens, John (Susan) Coffey, Jeremy Coffey, Taren (David) Caldwell, Kyle (Megan) Coffey, Phillip (June) Franklin, Jackie (Shane) Godfrey; great-grandchildren, Cadon Hull, Brennen Godfrey, Tyler Owens, Allysa Owens, Cecile Coffey, Ryleigh Boggs and Mikayla Godfrey; sister, Shirley Bailey; niece, Kimberly Thomas Kimbell; nephews, Greg and Leslie Davis and Tommy Thomas; sister-in-law, Peggy Davis Thomas of Chesapeake, VA; and special friends, Roby Jetton and Ronnie and Nickie Avery.

Ina Bell Armstrong Withers McAlister

MAIDEN — Mrs. Ina Bell Armstrong Withers McAlister, age 98, of Blackburn Bridge Road, Maiden died Saturday, April 5, 2014.

Her funeral will be 1p.m. today at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Painter and Rev. Jaie McKnight Warlick officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton. At other times, the family will be at the home of Charles Withers, 2401 Blackburn Bridge Road, Maiden.

Mrs. McAlister was born on March 14, 1916 in Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late Thomas Franklin Armstrong and Mary Etta Carpenter Armstrong.  She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Elgin J. Van Withers, her second husband, Ted McAlister and two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Withers Green and Annie Louise Withers Henderson.  Mrs. McAlister was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Thomas Withers and wife, Hazel of Maiden, Glenn Elliott Withers and wife, Janie of Ocean Isle, and David Lee Withers and wife, Lois of Virginia; three daughters, Frances Ruth Withers Covil and husband, William Daryell of Lincolnton, Glenda Withers Henderson and husband, Joe of Shelby and Shirley Withers King and husband, Jack of Maiden; twenty grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilma Rich Neal

HICKORY — Wilma Rich Neal, 83, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Trinity Village surrounded by her family and friends.

Mrs. Neal was born April 13, 1930, in Cleveland County to the late Carles Rich and Artie Cook Rich.  She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Ms. Neal taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She owned and operated Neal Properties. Ms. Neal was a realtor for eighteen years.  She loved painting and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty seven years, Charles Odell Neal Jr.

Surviving are her sons, Charles Neal III and his wife, Diane of Montgomery, Tex. and Mark Neal and wife Laura of Webster Groves, Mo.; her daughter, Shelly Speagle of Hickory; granddaughters Natalie Speagle of Charlotte, and Emily Norboge and husband Nicolas of Houston, Tex.; grandsons Matthew Neal and wife Kirby of Houston, Tex., Justin Speagle of Hickory, Dylan Neal of Webster Groves, Mo.; great-grandson Charles Farrell Speagle of Hickory; sister Gale Sudduth and husband Earl of Seagrove, and Charlotte Fidler of Sumpter, S.C.

The family received friends on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Mountain Grove Baptist Church from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Loftis officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

John “Everette” Carpenter

John “Everette” Carpenter, 73, passed away April 5, 2014.  He is now resting pain free with Jesus.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Bost officiating.  Burial will follow in ForestLawnCemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Monday prior to the funeral at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Carpenter was born December 29, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents John “Paul” Carpenter and Polly Brown Carpenter, one sister Jolene Honeycutt, and his first wife of 40 years Carolyn Perry Carpenter.

He is survived by his wife Katie Marie Carpenter of the home; one son Terry Carpenter and wife Charlsie of Lincolnton, and two step-children Kim Jones of Cherryville, and Richard Jones  of  Lincolnton; 3 grandchildren Rusty Carpenter and wife Elizabeth of Lincolnton, Heather Carpenter Fredell and husband Stephen of Vale, and Kaylon Carpenter Hovis and husband Kyle of Vale; 5 step grandchildren  Jeffery Rudisill and wife Katie, Craig  Watts, Tiffany Jones, Madison Jones, and Skyler Jones; 6 great-grandchildren Hunter and Will Carpenter, Tristan and Nadia Fredell, and Brody and Alayna Hovis; and 2 step-great grandchildren Emily Watts and Zander Teague.

Levi Hallman

Levi Jayson Hallman, 23, of 1194 Redding Lane, Lincolnton, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 4, 2014 at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill.

He was born in Gaston County on December 19, 1990, to Jay Alexander Hallman of Charlotte and Lois Redding Hallman of Lincolnton. He was employed with Saine Ace Hardware and was a member of Hull’s Grove Baptist Church.  Levi was an avid Duke fan and enjoyed playing sports and riding his motorcycle.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Janice Hallman and cousin, Sadie Marie Redding.

In addition to his parents he is survived by two brothers, Brent Alexander Hallman and wife, Ashley and Nolan Robert Hallman both of Lincolnton; grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Redding of Cherryville and JL Hallman of Lincolnton; niece, Corrigan Hallman of Lincolnton; aunt, Linda R. Shelton and husband, Harry of Lincolnton and uncle, Marcus Redding and wife, Chrissie of Cherryville; and numerous cousins.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church, Vale. A Celebration of Life Service was 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church, Vale, with the Rev. Robert Redding and  Rev. Marcus Redding officiating.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sue Ewing Jones

Sue Ewing Jones, age 85, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Friday, April 4, 2014.

A graveside service was held at 3 p. m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Walt Windley officiating. The family received friends following the graveside service. At all other times, the family was at the home of Fran and Don Cagle, 1180 Downing Court in Lincolnton.

Mrs. Jones was born March 23, 1929, in Lincoln County to the late Robert Henry Ewing and Margaret Dorsey Ewing. Sue was the last of seven Ewing brothers and sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Abernethy, and her husband, W.R. “Dub” Jones.

She is survived by a daughter, Fran Abernethy Cagle and husband Don of Lincolnton; two grandchildren, Charles Spencer Cagle and wife Mary and Rachel Frances Cagle and fiancé Jason Hammonds, all of Lincolnton; two great-grandchildren, Mason Andrew Cagle and Lyla Anne Cagle; special nieces, Elizabeth Wiseman and Doris Coulter; and great-nephews, Jamie Ewing, Michael Wiseman and wife Ann; and great-niece, Natalie Wiseman.

Bobby Nelson Painter

MAIDEN — Bobby Nelson Painter, 80, of Maiden passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at his residence.

Born February 7, 1934 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Rachel Killian Painter.

Mr. Painter was a charter member of Mt. Anderson Baptist Church in Maiden and a veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his parents; wife, Phoebe Wilkinson Painter; granddaughter, Caitlyn Painter; two brothers, Paul Painter George Painter and a sister, Colleen P. Dellinger preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Rahn Painter and wife, Cindy of Denver, Todd Painter and wife, Melanie of Maiden; five grandchildren, Chastity McRee, Chad Painter, Haylie Rembert, Autumn Lutz and Rhonda Martin; six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Mt. Anderson Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Charles Ingle and Rev. Donald Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church.

John Bennett Dellinger Jr.

John Bennett Dellinger, Jr., 95, of Cherryville, died April 5, 2014.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 100 Cherryville.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 12 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. prior to the service in the Vida Dellinger Parlor at St. John’s church.

Glenn Lucas Putnam, 87, of Catawba died April 5, 2014.
