Jackson Kenneth Crawley

Mr. Jackson Kenneth Crawley, age 71, of Vale died on Saturday March 29, 2014.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday April 2, 2014 at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. William Kanupp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Mr. Crawley was a native of Burke County born on July 28, 1942, son of the late Ernest and Flossie Mae Denton Crawley. He worked as a computer service tech as well as a farmer. Mr. Crawley also served his country in the US Navy Sea Bee’s during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of the home; two sons, Daune Crawley and wife Laurie of Lincolnton and Jeremy Crawley of Hubert; one brother, Wayne Crawley of Lebanon, Pa.; five sisters, Reba Abernethy and Doris Peeler both of Hickory, Landis Stewart of Concord, Gail Crawley of Lenoir, and Kathryn Johnson of Morganton; two grandchildren, Jonathan Crawley and Marilyn Crawley.

Jessie Mae Mauney Morrison

Jessie Mae Mauney Morrison, age 79, of Lincolnton passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Brian Center Viewmont of Hickory. Born June 25, 1934 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Daniel Mauney and Lena Leona Saunders Mauney.

She was a member of South River Baptist Church and was a winder in the textiles industry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Queen; a son, Howard Eugene Small; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Frances Cope Thomas.

She is survived by her husband, Flay Morrison of the home; two sons, Joseph Reid Small of Lincolnton and Melvin Morrison and his wife Rhonda of Lincolnton; three daughters, Joyce Gilmer of Lincolnton, Kathy Avery and her husband Bobby of Lincolnton, and Annette Reep and her husband David of Lincolnton; one brother, Oscar “Sonny” Mauney of Lincolnton; one sister, Betty Chapman of Crouse; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws, Brenda Small and Kay Calloway.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. at South River Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Carol Clifton Sain

Carol Clifton Sain, 80, of Hickory, passed away Thursday morning, March 27, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Sain was born October 18, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Fred Anderson Sain and Frances Iona Sain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Omah Sain, brother, Marvin Sain and brother-in-law, E. William “Bill” Price.

Mr. Sain was a member of the First Church of God.  He formerly served as a member of the church council and leader in the Boy Scouts of America for which he received the Cub Master of the Year and Silver Beaver awards.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 48.  After over 35 years of service, he retired from the City of Statesville Light Department.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Louise Bryant Sain of the home; daughter, Gina Louise Sain Swaim and husband Dennis Richard Swaim of Rural Hall; daughter, Connie Carol Sain of Charlotte; sister, Pauline Price of Gastonia and numerous other family and friends.

The funeral service was held on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at First Church of God, 3 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Hone officiating.  Burial followed in Catawba Memorial Park with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post 48 Hickory. The family received friends Saturday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Camp Sain Fund of First Church of God, 306 14th St. S.W., Hickory N.C. 28602 or the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Rd., Miami, FL 33136-1494.

Dennis Swaim, Ronnie Thrift, Donald Price, Edward Morton, Charlie Smith, Alan Bumgarner, Tim Bumgarner and Christopher Honsaker served as pallbearers.

Mary Leona Bratton, 65, of Cherryville died March 27, 2014.

A funeral service was held in the chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services on Sunday March 30, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. prior to the service.

David Carl Alexander Jr.

David Carl Alexander Jr., 72, of Newton passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014.

A funeral service was held March 29, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Church in Maiden. Burial followed at Maiden City Cemetery. The family received friends, prior to the service, from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.

June McCollum Kirby

June McCollum Kirby, 82, of Cherryville died March 26, 2014.

A memorial service was held March 30, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at First United Methodist in Cherryville. Burial was private.  The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Betty Lou Rose Wilkinson

Betty Lou Rose Wilkinson, 81, of Maiden died March 30, 2014.

Services will be held April 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Maiden. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Interment will be in Maiden City Cemetery.

Kenneth Breedlove

Kenneth Breedlove, 63, of Lawndale died March 29, 2014.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. April 2, 2014 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Gaston Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at Warlick Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Margaret Luella Robinson Johnson

Margaret Luella Robinson Johnson, 91, of Lincolnton died March 28, 2014.

Services will be held 2, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive Fire Baptized Holiness Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.

Tara Lynn Clark Osburn, 39, of Lincolnton died March 27, 2014.

A memorial service will be April 1, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at E. F. Drum Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

Rachel Gabriel Carter

Rachel Gabriel Carter, 89, of Newton died March 28, 2014.

Services honoring her life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Newton at 4 p.m. today with burial to follow at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Gomedela Room from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.

Dennis K.  Moore

Dennis Kay Moore, 76, of Newton died March 28, 2014.

A funeral service will be held today at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Maiden. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends today from 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
