East Lincoln softball holds off Maiden


Sarah Thompson doubled and drove in three runs, Booth Braswell went 3-for-3 and scored three times and Carly Johnson again went the distance as East Lincoln’s softball team withstood a late Maiden rally Friday to win 6-4.
The victory sets up an important Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference game at West Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday between the Mustangs (6-4, 5-1) and the Rebels (9-2, 5-1), who are tied for first, along with Bandys.
Taylor Wilson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Heidi Parker had a hit, Johnson had a hit and Payton Mills had a double for East Lincoln, which led 6-0 at the end of five innings.
Johnson (5-4) gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits, struck out 7 and walked two in her eighth complete game this season.

LINCOLN CHARTER 16, COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON 1: At Community School of Davidson, the Eagles remained undefeated in the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference and in first with the win. No other details were reported.
Lincoln Charter (9-1, 6-0) hosts Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on Tuesday.


EAST LINCOLN 1, LINCOLN CHARTER 0: At East Lincoln, the Mustangs picked up a non-conference win over the Eagles.
Cassidy Farar scored on an assist from Danielle Colanino. East Lincoln keeper Molli Dallin recorded her third shutout of the week last week as the Mustangs played their third match in four days. They’ve also won seven straight matches. Eagles keeper Katherine Doyle had four saves in goal.
East Lincoln (7-3-1) travels to West Lincoln on Tuesday while Lincoln Charter (6-4-0) opens SP1A play today at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy today.
NEWTON-CONOVER 7, WEST LINCOLN 0: At Newton-Conover, the Rebels fell in a SD-7 match. No other details were reported.
West Lincoln (0-4 SD-7) hosts East Lincoln on Tuesday.


LINCOLN CHARTER 9, COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON 0: At Community School of Davidson, the Eagles remained a game behind league-leading Cherryville in the SP1A race with the win.
Christian Hilty went 4-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs, Matt Stokes had two hits and two RBIs, Will Deyoe had a hit and an RBI, Kameron Reynolds had a triple and two RBIs, Nick Roser had two RBIs and Zach Hollar had an RBI. Hollar struck out seven, walked two and allowed one hit in six innings for the win.
Lincoln Charter (7-2, 5-1) hosts Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on Tuesday.
NORTH LINCOLN-STATESVILLE POSTPONED: Friday’s North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference game was postponed due to rain and will be made up on Wednesday.
