GED / Adult High School

 Gaston College will offer a free scholarship to pay for the GED test. To apply, students must attend a Basic Skills Orientation class 5:30-8:30 p.m. starting today (March 31) through April 3. The class is for new and returning students wishing to enter the Adult High School or GED programs. Classes will be in Room 118. Students are asked to bring a valid driver’s license, ID and social security card. For more information and future class dates, call (704) 748-5226.

Cruise event registration

Registration is now open to attend East Lincoln Relay for Life’s 8th Annual Cruising for a Cure, set for May 31 at Denver UMC. All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. Cost is $20.  Vet birthday week

Widowed Group

The Widowed Group of the Greater Gaston Area will meet 5:30-6:30 p.m. for dinner at Jackson’s Cafeteria in Gastonia. Speaker Dee Lemon, RN, will present the program “Stroke Prevention.”

 Board of Education

 The Lincoln County Board of Education will meet 6 p.m. at the Administrative Offices, 353 N. Generals Blvd.

 Tai Chi                         

First Presbyterian Church in Lincolnton will offer free Tai Chi classes 6:30-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday in April and May with Instructor Myra Jane Ramseur, LAC. All ages are welcome. For more information, call (704) 472-3632.

 Lion’s Club

The Lincolnton Lion’s Club will meet 7 p.m. in the Elm Classroom at CMC Lincoln’s Medical Plaza, 441 McAlister Rd. in Lincolnton. Members and guests planning to eat in the hospital cafeteria are asked to arrive 30 min. beforehand. Topics for dicussion will include highlights from the District Cabinet meeting, volunteer and fundraising opportunities, Camp Dogwood, Zone 11 logistical concerns, membership growth, the Nominating Committee and secretary and treasurer reports.

The Last Man’s Club will meet 11 a.m. at the Lincoln House Restaurant in Lincolnton.

Sunshine Quilters

Beginning sewing group the Sunshine Quilters will meet 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln County Senior Center, 514 S. Aspen St. on the Gaston College-Lincoln campus in Lincolnton. For more information, call (704) 732-9053.

Guitar lessons

Anyone interested in taking guitar or bass lessons can sign up 7 p.m. in the Rotary Room at the Cultural Center in Lincolnton (second floor).
