A swarm of officers is currently on scene near a Lincolnton apartment complex, searching for a man witnesses said fired a gun at police Thursday evening.
Witnesses told the Times-News an officer stopped the man’s vehicle along a Lincolnton roadway near Colonial Village.
When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver fired a shot at him before fleeing the scene toward the apartment complex, a witness said.
Police said they are searching wooded area near Colonial Village, looking for the man who was described in scanner traffic as white and having a long, brown ponytail.
Goodwill in Lincolnton was also on lockdown because of the incident, according to one shopper, Lincoln Times-News Circulation Manager Robin Ledford, who was inside the store Thursday evening.
Ledford said she spotted officers pull into the store parking lot with sirens flashing around 7:30 p.m.
After jumping out of their vehicles, the officers opened up the trunks and pulled out bulletproof vests and guns, she said.
Concerned about what was taking place, Ledford questioned officers.
“I asked if we should be concerned,” she said, “and he said, ‘Yea, lock the door.’”
More details will be published as they become available.
