EL softball shuts out Bears

Taylor Wilson went 3-for-4 to lead a 13-hit offense, and Carly Johnson tossed a two-hit shutout as East Lincoln downed Bunker Hill 9-0 in softball on Wednesday to stay in the mix atop the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference.
Kaelyn Edwards went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Sarah Thompson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs, Booth Braswell doubled and drove in two runs, and Destiny McClure, Heidi Parker, Madison Hatfield, Kaley Reel and Payton Mills had a hit each. Johnson struck out nine for the win.
The Mustangs (5-4, 4-1), tied for first with Bandys and West Lincoln, host Maiden today.

WEST LINCOLN 11, MAIDEN 0, 5 INN.: At Maiden, the Rebels won their SD-7 game in a make-up from Tuesday’s rainout.
Kylee Leonhardt went 3-for-3 with a triple, a walk and an RBI, Karsen Leonhardt went 3-for-5 with a two, two RBIs and two stolen bases, Raeven McCrodden went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, Katie Hively went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base and Meredith Ferguson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Heather Truesdale had a double, Lyla Sain had a single and an RBI and Madison Ferguson had a hit. Cassidy Wise struck out 11 in the two-hit shutout.
West Lincoln hosts East Lincoln on Tuesday.
LINCOLNTON 8, WEST CALDWELL 4: At West Caldwell, the Wolves picked up a SD-7 win on Thursday in a game moved up a day to beat today’s forecasted rainy weather. No other details were reported.
Lincolnton (4-4, 2-3), which also beat Gastonia Ashbrook 14-2 in five innings on Wednesday, will play at Maiden on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

SHELBY 3, NORTH LINCOLN 2: At Shelby, the Knights dropped a non-conference game on the road Thursday.
Zach Avery went 1-for-4 with a double a two RBIs, Brian Seymour doubled, Zach McGinnis had a hit and Ricky Anthony had a hit for North Lincoln, which stranded runners at second and third in the top of the seventh. Ryan Smith gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits, walked two and struck out five in 5 1/3 innings in the loss.
North Lincoln (6-5) travels to Statesville today.
WEST LINCOLN 12, BANDYS 7: At West Lincoln, the Rebels picked up a SD-7 win in a game moved up a day in order to beat today’s forecasted rain. No other details were reported.
West Lincoln (5-5, 3-3) hosts East Lincoln on Tuesday.
WEST CALDWELL 6, LINCOLNTON 5: At West Caldwell, the Warriors scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh for the SD-7 win. No other details were reported.

LINCOLN CHARTER 13, PINE LAKE PREP 3, 6 INN.: At Pine Lake Prep, the Eagles 10-run ruled Pine Lake Prep for a Southern Piedmont 1A Conference win on Wednesday.
Christian Hilty went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and scored three runs, Matt Stokes went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Nathaniel Scoggins went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Ian Chryst went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Zach Hollar went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Barry Cheek doubled and Nick Roser doubled. Scoggins gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits and struck out five in the complete-game win.
Lincoln Charter (6-2, 4-1) travels to Community School of Davidson today.
MAIDEN 7, WEST LINCOLN 4: At Maiden, the Blue Devils stayed atop the SD-7 by beating the Rebels.
The victory set up a key game tonight for Maiden (6-2, 5-0). The Blue Devils, who scored six first-inning runs, go to East Lincoln, which shares second place with Bunker Hill.
Jake McRee and Fowler each had two hits for Maiden, while Tommy Garwood, Chandler Jenkins and Mack George each had two hits for West Lincoln. Jenkins drove in runs with a triple and a double. Alec Johnson went five innings and took the loss for the Rebels.
LAKE NORMAN 6, NORTH LINCOLN 2: At North Lincoln, the Knights fell in a North Piedmont 3A/4A game.
Brian Seymour went 1-for-3, Zack Avery had a hit and an RBI, Ty Pauley had a hit, Zac Reeder had a hit, Alex Pickerel had a hit and Zach McGinnis had an RBI. Paul Cochrane gave up four runs, one earned, on four hits, walked four and struck out three in four innings in the loss.
NEWTON-CONOVER 3, LINCOLNTON 1: At Lincolnton, the Red Devils picked up their first SD-7 win of the season. No other details were reported.

GIRLS SOCCER

LINCOLN CHARTER 3, STATESVILLE CHRISTIAN 1: At Statesville Christian, the Eagles picked up a non-conference win.
Tori Jackson scored all three goals and Carly Jasinski had an assist. Katherine Doyle had five saves in goal.
Lincoln Charter (6-3) travels to East Lincoln today. Its SP1A opener with Pine Lake Prep on Wednesday was postponed to next month.

BOYS GOLF

NL FINISHES SECOND: At River Oaks Golf Club in Statesville, North Lincoln finished second an a nine-hole NP3A/4A match with a 154. Lake Norman won with a 151.
Scorers for the Knights were Alston Taylor (38), Ben Hager (38), Jake Haynes (45), Nick Steele (38), Aaron Digh (40) and Alex Prunier (52). Lake Norman’s Dakota Bjorgen was the medalist with a 37.
