WL softball routs N-C, takes over first in SD-7

LINCOLN TIMES-NEWS

Katie Hively drove in three runs and Kylee Leonhardt drove in four as West Lincoln’s softball team moved into first place in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference with a 15-0, three-inning win at Newton-Conover.
Hively went 2-for-3 and Leonhardt went 1-for-1 with a triple and a walk. Erin Huff went 2-for-2 with an RBI, Raeven McCrodden went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and stole a base, and Karsen Leonhardt went 1-for-1 with an RBI, two walks and stole a base.
Madison Ferguson, Meredith Ferguson (RBI), Alex Goins (RBI) and Lyla Sain (RBI) added a hit each.
Cassidy Wise (7-1) struck out six, walked one and gave up two hits in the win.
West Lincoln (7-1, 3-0) hosts West Caldwell today at 4:30 p.m.

LINCOLNTON 2, BANDYS 1, 9 INN.: At Lincolnton, the Wolves picked up their first SD-7 win of the season in extra innings. No other details were reported.
Lincolnton (1-2 SD-7) travels to Bunker Hill today.
LINCOLN CHARTER 17, HIGHLAND TECH 0: At Highland Tech, the Eagles stayed unbeaten in Southern Piedmont 1A Conference play on Wednesday.
Lindsay Hoyt went 2-for-3, Emily Kenley went 3-for-4, Courtney Tucker went 1-for-2, Hailey Howard went 2-for-4 and Payton Smith went 2-for-3. Josie Weber struck out 15 in the win.
The Eagles (4-2, 2-0) host fellow league unbeaten Bessemer City (3-0 SP1A) today.

BASEBALL

WEST LINCOLN 5, NEWTON-CONOVER 0: At Newton-Conover, the Rebels picked up a SD-7 win on the road on Thursday.
Alec Johnson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Chandler Jenkins went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, Ashton Rana went 1-for-3, Jake Bradley went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, Sam High went 1-for-2 and Tommy Garwood went 1-for-3 and an RBI.
Johnson picked up the win. He scattered four hits across six scoreless innings, walked four and struck out eight.
West Lincoln (4-3, 2-1) hosts West Caldwell today. Both teams are part of a four-way tie for second in the league.
BUNKER HILL 6, EAST LINCOLN 1: At East Lincoln, the Mustangs dropped their first SD-7 game of the year. No other details were reported.
East Lincoln (2-6, 2-1) travels to Newton-Conover today.
LINCOLN CHARTER 4, HIGHLAND TECH 1: At Highland Tech, the Eagles picked up a SP1A win on Wednesday.
Nathaniel Scoggins scattered five hits, gave up one run, walked one and struck out four in the complete game win. Ian Chryst had a double, an RBI and scored a run, Barry Cheek drove in a run and scored a run, Adam Hutson went 2-for-3, Zach Hollar drove in a run, and Andy Jones went 1-for-2 and scored a run.
Lincoln Charter (3-2, 2-1) hosts Bessemer City today.

GIRLS SOCCER

HUNTERSVILLE HOPEWELL 5, LINCOLN CHARTER 0: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles had their four-match win streak snapped on Wednesday.
Katherine Doyle had two saves and Madi NeeSmith had three saves in goal for the Eagles.
Lincoln Charter (4-3) travels to Newton-Conover today.
EAST LINCOLN 3, BUNKER HILL 0: At East Lincoln, the Mustangs opened SD-7 play with a win. No other details were reported.
ALEXANDER CENTRAL 5, NORTH LINCOLN 1: At Alexander Central, the Knights dropped their North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference opener. No other details were reported.
North Lincoln (2-4, 0-1) hosts South Iredell today in a make-up game postponed on Monday.
WEST LINCOLN-NEWTON-CONOVER POSTPONED: Wednesday’s SD-7 match between the Rebels and Red Devils was postponed due to a wet field. The match is rescheduled for March 28.

WINTER AWARDS

OMMISSION: West Lincoln’s Noelle Self was named the junior varsity girls basketball MVP during the school’s winter awards banquet. Her name was inadvertently left off the list received by the Lincoln Times-News.
