Verna Hazeleen Quinn Heavner

Verna Hazeleen Quinn Heavner, age 84, of 2194 Shoal Road in Lincolnton, died on Saturday, March 14, 2014.

Her funeral service will be 4 p.m. today at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Pastor Fred Mitschke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Heavner was born November 1, 1929, in Lincoln County to the late John H. and Mary Uren Quinn. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Yates Heavner. She retired from Harris-Teeter where she worked as a cashier.

She is survived by a son, Scott Heavner of Lincolnton; daughter, Danya Lowe of Crouse; three grandchildren, Scotty Heavner, Chadd Lowe, and Kasey Jackson; and four great-grandchildren, Mallory Jackson, Maggy Heavner, Ty Heavner, and Aaron Heavner.

Farrell Charles Johnson

VALE — Mr. Farrell Charles Johnson, age 87, of 6279 Leatherman Road in Vale, died on Sunday, March 16, 2014.

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor John Locke and Rev. Robert Sain officiating. His body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson was born March 8, 1927 in Lincoln County to the late Charles and Annie Wood Keever Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Prue Leatherman Johnson and two brothers, Ralph Johnson and Carl Johnson.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II.  Mr. Johnson was a retired mail carrier and a lifelong farmer and retired charter member volunteer fireman with Union Fire Department.  He was a mason in the Cooksville Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Scottish Rites of Charlotte.

Survivors include his two sons Ronald Johnson and wife Patricia and Steve Johnson and wife April, all of Vale; four grandchildren, Sherrie Davis and husband Randall, Brad Johnson, Allison Chapman and husband Lee and Chandler Johnson; one great grandchild, Shelby Ann Davis.

Craig Mosteller

Mr. Craig Mosteller, age 85, of Lincolnton, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walt Windley and Rev. Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Mosteller was born on March 11, 1929 in Lincoln County to the late John F. and Ella Grigg Mosteller.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Proctor Mosteller; three brothers, Lewis Mosteller, Wade Mosteller and Lee Mosteller and one sister Ethel Little.  Mr. Mosteller drove a truck for 50 years, driving for Central Candy Company, Dixie Grocery, Thurston Motor Lines and ultimately retiring from Carolina Freight after 30 years of service.  In 1993 he received the North Carolina Truck Driver of the Year and was also awarded the Governors Award for driving 4,000,000 miles in 42 years without a chargeable accident.

He is survived by two sons, Johnny C. Mosteller and wife Judy of Lincolnton, Tony F. Mosteller and wife Tammy of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Roger Mosteller, Melissa Mosteller, Lauren Gibby, Samuel Mosteller and Matthew Mosteller; two great grandchildren, Wesley and Kelsey Mosteller

Donald ‘Rick’ Ricky Rhyne

Mr. Donald “Rick” Ricky Rhyne, age 66, of 319 S. Rhyne Street in Lincolnton, died on Friday, March 14, 2014.

His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wyant officiating. Burial will follow in the Gainsville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the Philathea classroom prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of his son, Devin Rhyne, 216 N. Oak Street in Lincolnton.

Rick was born October 7, 1947, in Lincoln County to the late Richard and Daphine Elmore Rhyne. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane Armstrong Rhyne. Rick was retired from the furniture industry.

He is survived by a son, Devin Rhyne and wife Shelly of Lincolnton; a daughter, Chandra Harris and husband Danny of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Joby Rhyne, Ashleigh Harris, Shaina Harris, and Peyton Harris; and an uncle, Paul Elmore and wife Lanelle of Lincolnton.

Ronnie Lee Thomas

Mr. Ronnie Lee Thomas, age 63, of 1814 Drew Drive in Lincolnton, died on Friday, March 14, 2014.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Kennedy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomas was born October 29, 1950, in Lancaster, Ohio to Eileen Harriet Burnsworth Thomas and the late Raymond Harry Thomas. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and then later worked as a welder.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Gilbert Thomas of the home; two sons, Dennis Thomas of Taylorsville and Daniel Anderson and wife Bobbie Jo of Bessemer City; four daughters, Tina Davis of Lincolnton, Teresa Headrick and husband David of Vale, Tonya Headrick and husband Donnie of Vale, and Melina Dillard and husband Michael of Kings Mountain; one brother, Rick Thomas and wife Barbara of Rushville, Ohio; one sister, Carolyn Spillman and husband David of Junction City, Ohio; his mother, Eileen Thomas of Rushville, Ohio; twenty grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Jodelle Inez White

Jodelle Inez White, age 51, of 2218 Startown Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, March 14, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Pisgah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Judy Eurey officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

Ms. White was born on July 16, 1962 In Pima County, Ariz. to J.W. and Jody Anderson Kaylor. She was a graduate of West Lincoln High School and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.  Ms. White worked at various nursing facilities as a CNAII.  She loved music and taking care of her animals.

She is survived by her parents, J.W. and Jody Kaylor of Lincolnton; three sisters, Janeen Kaylor of the home, Johnna Kaylor of Lincolnton and Jaquetta King and husband Patrick of Lincolnton; four nephews; three nieces and two great nephews and two great nieces

Sherman Marcus Daniel

Sherman Marcus Daniel, 60, of Claremont died March 13, 2014.

A home going service will be held March 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Catawba. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Catawba. The family will receive friends March 18, 2014 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Della Faye Scism Murray

Della Faye Scism Murray, 75, of Waco died March 15, 2014.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Frank Edward Woodruff, 56, of Vale died March 12, 2014.

Services will be held at a later date in Orange County, N.Y.

Giles Baxter Neill

Giles Baxter Neill, 86, of Terrell, formerly of Cherryville, died March 13, 2014.

Funeral services were held March 16, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial was in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 p.m. until2:45 p.m.

Tony Gadfield

Anthony “Tony” Dee Gadfield, 57, of Newton died March 13, 2014.

A memorial service was held March 15, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton. The family received friends following the memorial service in the Family Life Center.
