NL softball downs South Iredell, stays unbeaten


Hollyn Franklin tossed a one-hitter and Jayden Maddox homered as North Lincoln downed visiting South Iredell 2-0 on Tuesday in the North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference opener for both teams.
Courtney Trickle and Peyton Wilson had two hits each for the Knights, who stayed undefeated on the year. Franklin also struck out five.
North Lincoln (4-0, 1-0) is scheduled to travel to Lincoln Charter, weather permitting, for a non-conference game today. The Knights travel to nationally-ranked Alexander Central on Friday.

BANDYS 12, EAST LINCOLN 8: At Bandys, the Mustangs fell in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference opener.
Sarah Thompson went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, Kaelyn Edwards went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Booth Braswell went 2-for-4, Madison Hatfield went 2-for-2, Carly Johnson drove in two runs and Payton Mills had a hit and an RBI. Johnson gave up 10 earned runs on 11 hits, walked four and struck out two in the loss.
The Mustangs (1-4, 0-1) host St. Stephens on Thursday.


EAST LINCOLN 9, BANDYS 8: At Bandys, Chris Cox drove in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and the Mustangs opened SD-7 play with a win.
Cox went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run, and also picked up the win in relief. He gave up one run on two hits, walked two and struck out two in three innings. Alec Hubbard, who earned the save, went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, scored two runs and stole a base.
East Lincoln (2-3, 1-0) travels to Lincolnton on Friday.
NORTH LINCOLN 8, SOUTH IREDELL 3: At North Lincoln, the Knights opened NP3A/4A play with a win. No other details were reported.
North Lincoln (2-2, 1-0) is scheduled to play at West Lincoln today at 4:30 p.m.
SOUTH POINT 13, EAST LINCOLN 0, 5 INN.: At South Point, the Red Raiders handed the Mustangs a mercy-ruled non-conference loss on Monday.
South Point pitching held East Lincoln to one hit. No other details were reported.


LINCOLN CHARTER 1, MATTHEWS GRACE ACADEMY 0: At Grace Academy, the Eagles earned their second 1-0 win in as many days on Tuesday.
Caitlyn Miller scored on an assist from Kali Snider. Katherine Doyle had one save in the shutout as the Eagles outshot the host school 13-4.
Lincoln Charter (3-2) hosts Huntersville Christ the King on Thursday.
LINCOLN CHARTER 1, BANDYS 0: At Bandys, the Eagles picked up a non-conference win in a make-up match on Monday.
Kali Snider scored Lincoln Charter’s goal on an assist from Carly Jasinski. The Eagles outshot the Trojans 14-3. Katherine Doyle had a save in goal in the shutout.
LINCOLNTON 4, CHERRYVILLE 0: At Lincolnton, the Wolves picked up a non-conference win on Monday. No other details were reported.
Lincolnton travels to South Point today.
SOUTH IREDELL 3, EAST LINCOLN 1: At East Lincoln, the Vikings won the night cap of the two-match Andy Kosmala Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
Audrey Cardwell scored the lone goal for the Mustangs. Friday’s matches were cancelled due to the late week winter storm.
SOUTH POINT 6, NORTH LINCOLN 4: At East Lincoln, the Red Raiders downed the Knights in the first match of the Andy Kosmala Memorial Tournament. No other details were reported.


WEST LINCOLN 3, LINCOLNTON 2: At West Lincoln, the Rebels opened conference play Tuesday with a win.
Julian Brown was the winning pitcher while David Carpenter took the loss. Austin Dellinger, Langdon Givens and Daniel McBride were the top hitters for the Wolves.
