John Carlos Chapman
Mr. John Carlos Chapman, age 72, of 1675 Lenora Circle in Lincolnton, died on Friday, March 7, 2014.
His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Devine officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Chapman was born on December 16, 1941 in Lincoln County to the late Claude and Christine Rudisill Chapman. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Chapman was retired from Carolina Freight where he worked for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Deitra Chapman of the home; two sons, Tony Chapman and wife Renee of Lincolnton, Kevin Chapman and wife Pamela of Taylorsville; one daughter, Christy Harkey and husband Ben of Lincolnton; one brother, Jerry Chapman and wife Wanda of Lincolnton; three sisters, Sharon Mosteller and husband Larry, Robin Wease and husband Glenn and Pat Wilburn and husband Tommy, all of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, T.J. Chapman and wife Allison, Mallory Sweet, Ethan Johnson and Abi Harkey and one great grandchild, Henry Chapman.

Dale Wayne ‘Critter’ Costner
CROUSE — Dale Wayne “Critter” Costner, age 59, of 131 Antioch Church Road in Crouse, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Walt Windley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Costner was born November 25, 1954, in Gaston County to the late Grier Wayne Costner, Sr. and Inez Elizabeth Fowler Costner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Carr. He worked in construction, loved his critters, and loved collecting things. He always said, “The main thing is to maintain.”
He is survived by a son, Dale Wayne Costner II, and wife Kimberly of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Ewayne Blankenship and husband Dennis of Charlotte, Elaine Wilson of Gastonia, and Eraine Hibberts of Parksville, S.C.; four brothers, Allen Wayne Costner and wife Brenda of Dallas, Grier Wayne Costner of Crouse, Randy Wayne Costner and wife Mary of Gastonia, and John Wayne Costner and wife Gail of Dallas; two grandchildren, Trae Dale Costner and Chloe Rayne Costner; and their grandmother, the love of his life, Ginny Arnette.

Sue McSwain Hough
DALLAS — Sue McSwain Hough, 94, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014 at CMC-Lincoln.
Sue was a graduate of Dallas High School and South Eastern College of Beauty Culture. She was the owner of Suzette’s Beauty Salon in Dallas from 1958 until 2008. Sue was Miss Dallas of 1938. She was a beloved and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She had a joy for life and an infectious laugh. She always had the ability to make visitors feel welcomed and at home. Sue was a lifelong member of Dallas Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Hough, Jr., daughters, Marcia Cloninger and Donna Hough, parents, Lloyd and Minnie McDaniel McSwain, and her five sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her son, Frank M. Hough, III, and wife Annette of Mt. Holly; daughter, Marilyn Brooks and husband Stephen of Lincolnton, and sister, Nell Patton of Dallas. Also surviving include her much loved grandchildren, Tammy Ponds and husband Alvin of Interlaken, FL., Dr. John L. Cloninger, III and wife Sherry of Lincolnton, Bryan Hough and wife Gina of Mt. Holly, Elizabeth Gamiel of Manteo, Dr. Paul H. Cloninger and wife Shully of Cherryville, Suzanne Brooks of Washington, Jonathan Brooks of Lincolnton, eight great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with Reverend Baron Lee and Reverend Michael Collins officiating. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

Mr. Kenneth Lee Huffstetler, age 68, of 160 Antique Road in Lincolnton, died on Saturday, March 8, 2014.
His funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at First Christian Church with Rev. Kathy Naish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
Mr. Huffstetler was born on December 20, 1945 in Lincoln County to the late Marshall E. and Myrtle Carpenter Huffstetler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Marshall Huffstetler and two sisters Joann Hill and Carolyn Allran. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Huffstetler was retired from manufacturing where he worked as a plant superintendent.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Ewing Huffstetler of the home; one son, Ben Cauley and wife Holly of Lincolnton; one daughter, Michelle Hughes and husband Sean of Wilmington; one brother, Bill Huffstetler and wife Christy of Dallas; two sisters, Deborah Buff and husband Neil of Maiden and Jeannie Daniels of Sebring, FL; three grandchildren, Montgomery Hughes, Camden Hughes and Carter Cauley.

STATESVILLE — Mrs. Judith Caroline “Judy” Whisenant Stevenson, 75, of Statesville, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, in the Gordon Hospice House.
Born in Catawba County on February 18, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles Banks Whisenant and Lottie McRee Whisenant. She was a graduate of Maiden High School and the Medical College of Virginia, located in Richmond, VA with a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing. She was married to Dr. Robert McLelland “Bob” Stevenson, who survives.
A registered nurse and Medical Practice Manager, she was retired from Statesville-Iredell Radiology.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Charles “Chuck” Joseph Stevenson of Statesville, John Gregory Stevenson (Sterling), of Charlotte, Robert “Rob” Blake Stevenson, and James “Jim” McLelland Stevenson, of Statesville; two grandsons, Banks and Mac Stevenson, of Charlotte; two brothers, Charles L. “Chub” Whisenant of Tampa, Fla., Gregory A. Whisenant (Jan) of Lincolnton, one sister, Cindy Moose (John) of Belmont along with two nieces, Megan Moose and Mandy Goodwin (Jason).
A service to celebrate the life of Judith Stevenson will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Grant Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
