Conference play begins this week

Assuming the weather cooperates, league play for baseball and softball in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A and North Piedmont 3A/4A conferences is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
Last week’s rain and frozen precipitation washed out more than half of the scheduled non-conference games, leaving teams scrambling to reschedule and fill out a schedule with league play so close.
Baseball games postponed on Friday were: East Lincoln at Cherryville, Lincoln Charter at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, Lincolnton at Gastonia Stuart Cramer and North Lincoln at Hickory. No make-up dates were reported to the Lincoln Times-News.
Lincoln Charter’s Southern Piedmont 1A Conference softball game at Thomas Jefferson was also postponed, and all of Friday’s action in the Andy Kosmala Memorial Tournament at East Lincoln was cancelled. Saturday’s non-conference baseball games between West Lincoln and host North Lincoln –– already postponed once –– were postponed again due to unplayable field conditions. No make-up date has been announced.
The teams will play a varsity-only game at West Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Tuesday’s conference openers including (both baseball and softball): East Lincoln at Bandys, Lincolnton at West Lincoln and South Iredell at North Lincoln.
As of Sunday evening Accuweather.com forecasted rain on Wednesday.
