South Point baseball scores six runs in first two innings to down East Lincoln

LINCOLN TIMES-NEWS

Belmont South Point scored six runs in the first two innings and didn’t look back in its 7-1 win over visiting East Lincoln on Tuesday.
The Red Raiders scored three runs on three hits and two walks in the first inning, then added three more runs on three hits, two errors and a hit batter in the second for the 6-0 lead. The Mustangs scored their lone run in the sixth.
Blake Strupp went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Chase Watson went 1-for-3 for East Lincoln. Brett Wright took the loss. He gave up six runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings. Chris Cox and Carson Philemon combined for one earned run and five strikeouts in relief. Cox fanned four in 1 2/3 innings.
East Lincoln (1-2) travels to Gastonia Forestview for a non-conference game today.

NORTH LINCOLN 4, HUNTER HUSS 2: At North Lincoln, the Knights picked up their first win of the season in a game postponed from Monday due to weather. No other details were reported.
North Lincoln (1-2) travels to West Lincoln today. The junior varsity game will begin at 4 p.m. and play only five innings.
WEST LINCOLN-FRED T. FOARD POSTPONED: Monday’s non-conference game between West Lincoln and host Fred T. Foard was postponed due to weather. It will be made up on March 26.

GIRLS SOCCER

LINCOLN CHARTER 3, QUEEN’S GRANT 0: At Lincoln Charter, the Eagles picked up their first win of the season, scoring all three goals in an eight-minute span of the second half.
Caitlyn Miller scored in the 61st minute to break a scoreless tie, then Rachel Medina scored on an assist from Tori Jackson and Miller. Carly Jasinski scored the final goal unassisted in the 69th minute. The Eagles led 27-5 in shots on goal, and Katherine Doyle and Kait Ashby combined for the shutout.
Lincoln Charter (1-2-1) travels to Bandys on Thursday.
NEWTON-CONOVER 4, NORTH LINCOLN 2: At Newton-Conover, the Knights dropped a non-conference match. No other details were reported.
North Lincoln (1-2) travels to East Lincoln on Friday.
NORTH GASTON 3, WEST LINCOLN 1: At West Lincoln, the Wildcats picked up a non-conference win in a match that was postponed from Monday due to weather.
The Rebels (0-3) travel to Cherryville on Thursday.
NORTH LINCOLN-LINCOLNTON POSTPONED: Monday’s non-conference match between the Knights and host Wolves was postponed due to weather. It will be made up on March 14.

SOFTBALL

POSTPONEMENTS: Monday’s non-conference game between West Lincoln and host Fred T. Foard was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for today. West Lincoln’s home game with Cherryville, scheduled for Tuesday, was also postponed. It will be made up on March 12 at 4:30 p.m.

BOYS GOLF

KNIGHTS WIN MATCH: North Lincoln won a four-team, non-conference, nine-hole match at Lincoln Country Club on Monday.
Team scores were: North Lincoln 152, Shelby 161, Lincolnton 179 and South Iredell 183. Ben Hager of North Lincoln was the medalist with a 1-under 35. The Knights’ top four scorers were: Alston Taylor 38, Nick Steele 39, Jake Haynes 40 and Hager. Lincolnton was led by Henry Sain’s 42, Will Saine 45, Noah Keener 45 and Ely Walker 47.
