Shirley S. Frelich

SANFORD — Shirley S. Frelich, age 83, of Sanford, and formerly of Lincolnton until 2009, passed away at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst on Monday, March 3, 2014.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Shirley was born May 7, 1930, in Cleveland County to the late Clarence Sloetzer and Lois Gordon Sloetzer Cornwell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Lucian Frelich and a brother, Chris Cornwell. She worked as a sales clerk for Belk.

She is survived by a son, Monty Ray Frelich and wife, Sandra of Sanford; a daughter, Carla Davis and husband, Dennis of Vale; three grandchildren, Courtney Jones and husband David of Sanford, Katie Pearson and husband Mark of Vale, and Kellie Davis; two great-grandchildren, Lily Ann-Marie Jones and John Andrew Ray Jones of Sanford, and two brothers, Richard Cornwell and wife, Martha of Cherryville, and Morris Cornwell and wife, Diane of Lincolnton.

Martha Kay Davis

NEWTON — Martha Kay Davis, 60, of Lincolnton, formerly of Shelby was taken home  to be with the Lord and into the arms of her waiting family Sunday, March 2,  2014 at Catawba Valley Hospice House.

Ms. Davis was an officer with the Shelby Police Department for several years and an officer with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Force until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her son, David Albert (D.J.) Turner Jr.; her mother, Alfreda Crouse; stepfather, Gary Crouse; and father, Bruce Davis.

Survivors include her devoted and loving fiance, John Anderson of Lincolnton; brother, Danny Davis and wife, Kathy of Maiden; niece, Shanna Setzer and husband, Roy of Lincolnton; great-niece, Ashley Setzer of Lincolnton; great-nephew, Tyler Setzer of Lincolnton; and brother and sister in Christ and love David Anderson and wife, Sheila; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins who loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today in the Lutz-Austell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Wiggins officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.

Fred Elliott Jarrett Sr.

Mr. Fred Elliott Jarrett Sr., age 88, of 620 Bonview Avenue in Lincolnton, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014.

Funeral services will be held  2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church  in Lincolnton with Pastor Michael Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Mr. Jarrett was a native of Lincoln County, born on October 10, 1925, son of the late Charlie and Dare Leonard Jarrett.  He was owner of Jarrett’s Laundry and Cleaners in Lincolnton. Mr. Jarrett also served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Sigmon Jarrett of the home; one son, Fred E. Jarrett Jr. and wife June of Lincolnton; one daughter, Dara Jarrett of Lincolnton; and one grandson, Brett Jarrett of Charlotte.

Daniel Paul ‘Dan’ Cronin

Daniel Paul “Dan” Cronin, 61, of Iron Station died March 2, 2014. He was born on March 5, 1952 in Corning, N.Y. to the late Albert and Marion Cronin. Dan was the founder and president of B.I.C.C. (Business and Industrial Computer Company) and was an active contributor to Lincoln Charter School. He was a devoted husband and loving father.

Survivors include his wife, Terina Hall Cronin; sons, Dylan and Austin Cronin and daughter, Kaitlyn Cronin; brother, Pat Cronin and sister, Beth Cronin.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of James Funeral Home. Burial will be private at Unity Presbyterian Church.

Roy Lovelace Jr.

Mr. Roy Lovelace Jr., age 72, of 122 Lutz Drive, Dallas, N.C. died Saturday, March 1, 2014.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at New Faith Baptist Church, 1224 Mayberry Road, Alexis with Rev. Joe Drum officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Lovelace was born on November 21, 1941 in Rutherford County and was the son of the late Roy Lovelace Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Bradshaw Lovelace; a daughter, Tammy Engle; one sister, Evelyn Drum and two brothers, Harold Lovelace and Charles Lovelace.

Mr. Lovelace is survived by four sons, Randy Lovelace of Vale, Scott Lovelace of Dallas, N.C., Wayne Lovelace of Maiden and Shane Lovelace of Shelby; two daughters, Lisa Goins of Vale and Karen Connor of Maiden; three brothers, Jack Lovelace of Iron Station, Earl Lovelace of Drexel and William Lovelace of Cherryville; mother, Patsy Lovelace of Drexel; ten grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Helen Gilbert Conway

WAYNESVILLE — Helen Gilbert Conway, age 90, of 168 Brook Street in Waynesville, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Warlick Funeral Home from noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Ms. Conway was born December 23, 1923, in Edinburgh, Scotland to the late Alex and Christine Gilbert. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Chadford Charles Conway and a daughter, Sherry Conway Reace. She worked in accounting for NAPA Auto Parts and, in her spare time, was an accomplished painter winning many awards.

She is survived by three sons, Mark Conway and wife Louise of Columbia, S.C., Bruce Conway and wife Carol of San Francisco, Calif., and Craig Conway of Waynesville; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Charles R. Medlin Sr.

Charles Richard Medlin Sr. “Big M”, 65, of Newton died March 1, 2014.

The funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Newton. Burial will follow in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery, Newton with military honors. The family will receive friends today from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Joseph Ortiz

Joseph Ortiz, 45, of Newton died February 27, 2014.

Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. at Unity Commandment Keeping Church of the Living God in Newton. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow on March 8, 2014 at Beaverdale Cemetery in New Haven, Conn.

Robert Lee Auton, 77, of Sacramento, Calif. died February 19, 2014.

Pleaze David Guynn, 63, of Conover died March 3, 2014.

The funeral service will be held March 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, Conover. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. The
family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the church.
