LCS, NL, WL open softball seasons with wins


Karsen Campbell hit a grand slam in the first inning as Lincoln Charter’s softball team opened its season with a 5-0 win at Lake Norman High on Thursday.
Weber (a first name was not provided) struck out 10 for the Eagles in the win. Kenley went 2-for-4.
Lincoln Charter (1-0) hosts McDowell on Wednesday.

NORTH LINCOLN 4, WEST LINCOLN 2: At North Lincoln, the Knights opened their season with a win.
Franklin (no first names were provided) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Parker went 1-for-2, Maddox went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Wilson went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Wilson also picked up the win, giving up no hits, walks or runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Kylee Leonhardt went 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk for the Rebels (1-1). Heather Truesdale was 1-for-3 and Katie Hively went 1-for-3. Cassidy Wise took the loss. She gave up four earned runs on five hits, one walk, and struck out eight in six innings.
North Lincoln (1-0) travels to East Lincoln on Tuesday while West Lincoln hosts Valdese Draughn at 4:30 p.m. today.
WEST LINCOLN 14, CHERRYVILLE 4: At Cherryville, the Rebels opened their season on Wednesday by routing the Lady Ironmen.
Kylee Leonhardt went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a triple, Lyla Sain went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Heather Truesdale went 1-for-3 with a three-run double and a stolen base, Erin Huff stole a base, Katie Hivley and Karsen Leonhardt had a triple each and Alex Goins stole a base and had two hits for West Lincoln.
Cassidy Wise struck out 10, walked four and gave up 10 hits while allowing three earned runs in the win.


LINCOLN CHARTER 4, LAKE NORMAN CHARTER 3: At Lake Norman Charter, the Eagles opened their season with a win.
Nathaniel Scoggins pitched five strong innings in the win and Barry Cheek earned the save. Matt Stokes went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Kameron Reynolds went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Scoggins scored two runs.
The Eagles (1-0) host The Charlotte Stampede today at 4 p.m.
NORTH GASTON 7, WEST LINCOLN 6, 12 INN.: At North Gaston, the Wildcats won on a walk-off error in the season opener for both teams. The teams were tied 0-0 heading into the sixth inning.
Alec Johnson had two RBIs on two hits for West Lincoln, singling in the sixth and tripling in the 11th. The starter, Johnson allowed one hit and fanned five in five innings of work. Cody Dellinger went 4-for-6 and scored four runs. Ashton Rana had three hits and Lucas Brown had two.
Sam High was saddled with the loss. He gave up three runs on three walks and struck out four in 3 2/3 innings.
The Rebels struck first with two runs in the top of the seventh, but North Gaston answered with two in the home half. West Lincoln again scored two runs in the eighth, and again the Wildcats answered. The teams did the same thing in the 11th.
West Lincoln (0-1) hosts Cherryville today at 4:30 p.m.
FORESTVIEW 11, EAST LINCOLN 4: At East Lincoln, the Jaguars defeated the Mustangs in the season opener for both teams. No other details were reported.
East Lincoln (0-1) travels to North Lincoln on Saturday.
EAST BURKE 7, LINCOLNTON 2: At Lincolnton, the Wolves fell in the season opener for both teams. No other details were reported.
Lincolnton (0-1) hosts East Burke today.


EAST LINCOLN 2, LAKE NORMAN CHARTER 2: At Lake Norman Charter, the Mustangs tied with the defending 1A state champion in the season opener for both teams.
Lake Norman Charter led 2-0, but East Lincoln got second-half goals from Tatum Auvil on an assist from Audrey Cardwell, and Lexi Smith on an assist from Auvil. Keeper Molli Dallin had seven saves.
The Mustangs (0-0-1) are at West Iredell tonight.
BANDYS 4, NORTH LINCOLN 1: At Bandys, the Knights fell to the Trojans Thursday in the season opener for both teams.
Rachel Nuhfer scored the lone goal for North Lincoln in the 62nd minute.
The Knights (0-1) travel to Lincolnton on Monday.
