Edith Leatherman Boyles
NEWTON — Edith Lorene Leatherman Boyles, age 93, of Newton passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born January 25, 1921 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Russell B. and Laura Wise Leatherman. Mrs. Boyles was a member of Hebron United Methodist. She was a homemaker most of her life and retired from Mohican Mills in Lincolnton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chive Hassell Boyles, two sons, Bobby Boyles and an infant son, daughter-in-law, Gayle Boyles, three grandchildren, Johnny Boyles, Jr., Tina Boyles and C. F. Boyles and four sisters, Inez Hull, Hazel Hull, Edna Huffstetler and Merle Powell.
She is survived by three sons, Ricky Boyles and wife Kat of Vale, Johnny Boyles of Hickory and Randy Boyles and wife Tina of Mocksville; daughter-in-law, Joyce Boyles of Maiden; sister, Dorothy Baxter of Flay; sixteen grandchildren and a total of forty great and great great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Burke Mortuary in Newton with Rev. Cathy Turman officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Hebron United Methodist Church in Vale.

Jimmy Dale Clippard
Mr. Jimmy Dale Clippard, age 54, of 1823 George Brown Road in Crouse, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with guest speaker Anna Holloway. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Jimmy was born May 13, 1959, in Lincoln County to the late Ralph Frederick and Beddie Caroline Sutton Clippard. He worked for Timken for over 23 years. In his spare time, he helped with the Boy Scouts, loved playing guitar, enjoyed golfing, and was a member of the Heart Strings Band.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Smith Clippard of the home; a daughter, Desiree Dawn Schumacher of Stanley; a son, Dustin Clint Clippard of Crouse; and two sisters, Carolyn Proctor of Lincolnton, and Elaine Heafner of Cherryville.

Marvin “Ben” Heavner
Crouse – Mr. Marvin “Ben” Heavner, age 87, of Shoal Road, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, February 20, 2014.
Ben was born April 2, 1926 in Lincoln County to the late Roy Lima and Blanche Lee Carpenter Heavner. Ben graduated from Lincolnton High School in May of 1943. He enlisted into the United States Navy on March 30, 1944 where he served aboard the USS Williamsburg and the USS Van Valkenburg until he was honorably discharged on May 19, 1946. Upon discharge, he worked for Hudson Hosiery and as a self-employed painter. He retired from Breeden’s Poultry after 30 years of service as a USDA inspector.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Avis Heavner Cornwell and Marjorie Heavner Stell.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doyleta Wright Heavner of the home; daughters, Benetta O’Connor (Doug); Jan Thrift (Roger), Kathy Huss (Robert), Sandy Cashion (Perry); two sisters, Betty Auten of Hickory and Mable Cornwell of Lincolnton; four grandchildren: Donita Frankosky (Jason), Michael Huss (Andi), Charity Hedgepeth (Danny) and Roger Ben Thrift (Dana); nine great- grandchildren: Jordan Davis, Brett Davis, Ty Frankosky, Lacey Frankosky, Bailey Huss, Elijah Hedgepeth, Garett Hedgepeth, Seth Hedgepeth and Hailey Thrift.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers who treated Ben with love and respect, but especially Charity Hedgepeth, Sue Turpin, Tammy Walker and Polly O’Dell. Thank you to Hospice & Palliative Care of Lincoln County for their comfort and support both for Ben and for the family.
Visitation was held Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home, 405 N Dixie St, Cherryville, NC 28021, and at other times the family was at the home. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Bethphage Lutheran Church in Lincolnton with Pastor Fred Mitschke officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100.

Judy Annette Tate Owens
Judy Annette Tate Owens, age 47, of 2174 River Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, February 21, 2014.

Ms. Owens was born April 30, 1966, in Lincoln County to Geraldine Toney Tate and the late Harold Leon Tate. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Sherrie Tate Scronce. She worked at Ethan Allen in the finishing room.
She is survived by a son, Daniel W. Owens of Lincolnton; mother, Geraldine Tate of Lincolnton; brother, Randy Tate and wife Carol of Gastonia; sister, Patsy Smith and husband Ronald of Lincolnton; nieces and nephews, Jennifer McDonald and husband Bryan, Shannon Bradley and husband Michael, Ashley Adams, Brian Adams, Steven and Jamie Miller; six great-nieces and nephews; and Daniel’s godparents, Paula and Matthew Chavis.

Glenna Leatherman Roberts passed away peacefully February 20, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 9, 1947 in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Inez Hoffman Roberts and Clyford Warren Roberts.
Glenna was a hair stylist for over 45 years. She loved her work and had an incredible work ethic. Glenna had many clients most of whom became good friends as well. She considered many of her co-workers as family. Her clients valued her opinions which she gave freely and often. One way to aptly describe Glenna would be to say what a strong woman she was. Her devout faith never wavered as she dealt with her illness. She was true to herself and to her beliefs. Her hobbies included beautifying her home and her yard. She also loved listening to classical music. The family would like to offer deepest gratitude to her friend since childhood, Betty Helms, who walked with Glenna every step of her journey and to all the wonderful friends who were so loyal to her during her illness.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Lana Woods and one brother, Clifford Roberts.
Glenna is survived by her daughter Marnie Leatherman of Hickory, grandson Shawn Keller and former son-in-law Eddy Keller, both of Vale, her aunt Theo of Charlotte, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, February, 23, 2014 at New Life Fellowship Church where Glenna was a loyal member with the Rev. Robert Gober officiating. There was a gathering of friends to celebrate her life one hour prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the church fellowship room. Burial will follow today at 2 p.m. at Palmtree United Methodist Church.

Sarah ‘Lucille’ Duckworth Sutton
After a 4-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Sarah “Lucille” Duckworth Sutton, age 92, of Carillon Assisted Living, and formerly of Rosehill Drive in Lincolnton, passed peacefully to join her friends and family in Heaven.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dennis Bean officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lucille was born June 22, 1921, in Lincoln County to the late Thomas Clyde and Lula Guess Duckworth. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clint Wilson Sherrill, her second husband, Bruce M. Sutton of 50 years, infant brother William Duckworth, brothers Floyd Bill Duckworth and Harold Bud Duckworth, and a sister, Doris Johannessen. She worked as a seamstress.
She is survived by five sons, Joey Sherrill and wife Carol, Randy Sherrill and wife Cindy, Fred Sherrill, Jerry Sherrill, and Scott Sutton, all of Lincolnton; a daughter, Lesa Hovis of Lincolnton; two sisters, Hazel Gilbert of Lincolnton and Pauline Williams of Charlotte; ten grandchildren, Shannon Harris and husband Mike, Clay Sherrill, Kyle Hovis and wife Kaylon, Travis Sutton and wife Lauren, Amber Sherrill, Brooke Sherrill, Wesley Hovis, Spencer Sutton and wife Lauren, Dillon Sutton, and Taylor Sutton; and nine great-grandchildren, Laken, Jennifer, Andrew, and Abby Harris; Brody and Alayna Hovis; and Adleigh, Abree, and Lane Sutton.
