LCS girls, EL boys open playoffs at home


The NCHSAA released its pairings for the state basketball playoffs on Saturday, and three Lincoln County teams qualified.
Both the boys and girls teams played their way to their inaugural trip to the state postseason, and East Lincoln’s boys will join them when the state playoffs begin today.
Lincoln Charter’s girls won the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference regular season title, and earned a No. 2 seed in the 16-team 1A West bracket. The Eagles (21-2) will host league foe and No. 15 Highland Tech (8-13) at 6 p.m. today.
Lincoln Charter’s boys finished the regular season with a 10-16 record and were awarded a 13-seed. The Eagles open their first state playoff run at 7 p.m. at No. 4 Highlands School (14-8) from the Smoky Mountain 1A Conference.
East Lincoln’s boys won the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference tournament on Friday, and earned the league’s No. 2 playoff berth in the process. The Mustangs (23-3) were awarded a 10-seed in the 32-team 2A West bracket, and will host No. 23 R-S Central (13-9) today at 7 p.m.
