Bears eliminate Lincolnton boys


Justin Setzer scored 19 points and Jordan Eckard added 15 and Bunker Hill eliminated Lincolnton from the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A Conference boys tournament with a 70-63 win in a quarterfinal on Tuesday.
The fourth-seeded and host Bears (14-10) will face No. 1 Newton-Conover, a 90-51 winner over West Lincoln, in a semifinal at 8 p.m. today at Catawba Valley Community College.
The Wolves (8-15) were led by Quinlyn Harris, who scored 14 points, Will Saine, who scored 12 points, and Colby Pridmore, who scored 10 points. They will find out on Saturday if they qualified for the state playoffs.

NEWTON-CONOVER 90, WEST LINCOLN 51: At Newton-Conover, the top-seeded Red Devils ran away with an easy SD-7 quarterfinal win.
Tyoun Shuford, Cameron Stanley and Jalen Connor scored 12 points, and Josh Ramseur added 11 for Newton-Conover (20-4), which will face Bunker Hill in a semifinal at CVCC today.
Dylan Frady led West Lincoln with 12 points. The Rebels ended the season with a 2-22 overall record.
LAKE NORMAN 90, NORTH LINCOLN 33: At Lake Norman, the top-seeded Wildcats advanced to the semifinals of the North Piedmont 3A/4A Conference tournament.
Zach McGinnis led the Knights with 14 points.
Lake Norman (21-1) will face Statesville, a 56-47 winner over Alexander Central, in a semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today at Alexander Central.
North Lincoln’s season came to end after a 6-19 campaign.


BUNKER HILL 64, EAST LINCOLN 15: At Bunker Hill, the Bears advanced to the semifinals of the SD-7 girls tournament.
Kayla Garrett scored 13 points for Bunker Hill (15-9), which faces Maiden, a 45-35 winner over Lincolnton, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in a semifinal at CVCC.
Alyssa Fuller led East Lincoln with 10 points. The Mustangs finished the season 3-21.
ALEXANDER CENTRAL 77, NORTH LINCOLN 11: At Alexander Central, the Cougars held the Knights scoreless in the first quarter in the NP3A/4A quarterfinal win.
Kelsie Rhyne led Alexander Central (24-1) with 12 points. It will host North Iredell, a 33-30 winner over Mooresville, at 6 p.m. today in a semifinal. The Knights, led by Rachel Nuhfer’s six points, ended the season 0-25.
MAIDEN 45, LINCOLNTON 35: At Maiden, the third-seeded Blue Devils advanced to the semifinals of the SD-7 tournament. No other details were reported.
Maiden (14-10) will face Bunker Hill, a 64-15 winner over East Lincoln, in a semifinal at CVCC at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lincolnton (8-15) awaits its fate when the state playoffs pairings are announced on Saturday.
BANDYS 84, WEST LINCOLN 17: At Bandys, the Trojans stayed unbeaten and moved on in the SD-7 tournament. No other details were reported.
Bandys (24-0) will face No. 4 Newton-Conover, a 57-23 winner over West Caldwell, at 6:30 p.m. today at CVCC in a semifinal. The Rebels’ season came to a close with a 6-18 overall record.
